Is Tim Gunn Returning To ‘Project Runway’ & Reuniting With Heidi Klum?
Project Runway Season 21 is returning. This time it will be on a new network, Freeform, and eventually Disney. Best of all, Heidi Klum is back as host and judge. Now, fans of the fashionable series may want to know whether or not “Make It Work” mentor Tim Gunn is returning. He just updated his status with the show in a new interview.

Is Tim Gunn Going To Be Project Runway Season 21?
Project Runway is back for Season 21. Best of all, Heidi Klum is back. However, in a new People Magazine interview, Tim Gunn has revealed that he is not returning. Worst of all, this has been “devastating.” The highly-respected and charismatic Gunn shared what transpired.
Firstly, in the fall, Heidi Klum texted Tim about possibly retuning to the series where he was mentor for 16 seasons. “Heidi sent me a text saying, ‘There’s talk about bringing Project Runway back with us, with you and me, and would you do it?’ and I said, ‘Would I do it? Of course, there’s not a moment of hesitation to me.'”
Therefore, for the next few months, Heidi and Tim were regularly texting each other. It was a few months later that Heidi asked him, “Are you happy with your contract?” Explaining that he is a “truth-teller,” he revealed that he had not been given a contract. Heidi was confused. She asked, “You haven’t?” She clearly expected Tim to have a different answer.
Next, Tim thought he would contact his agent. He needed to get to the bottom of this. His agent returned with bad news. When the agent contacted the Project Runway executive producers, the reply was, “We don’t want him.” When the agent reasoned with them, “Well, he’s done 19 seasons of Runway, 16 with Heidi. The two of them won an Emmy together as hosts, and now you’re going to separate them?” The response was, “Yes.”
Project Runway Mentor Offered “Small Cameo”
The drama of Tim Gunn’s experience with the new Project Runway executive producers did not end here. A few weeks later, Tim was offered a “small cameo” role. This was just for one season. Tim responded in the most Tim Gunn way possible.
What do I do? Wave from a bus? As the designers are going into Mood? Heidi comes to see me at the retirement home and we play croquet? So no thank you. And as Heidi would say, you’re either in or you’re out. And I ‘m out. So I wasn’t asked to join.
Despite his fierce reaction to the small cameo, Tim admitted that he was “initially devastated, then kind of humiliated.” However, this is Tim Gunn and he was not about to let this take him down! Tim thought about things and realized what a spectacular 20 years he has had doing this show.
Am I disappointed? Sure. And most of all, it’s about not working with Heidi, but we move on and things happen for a reason. I don’t know what the reason is yet, but it will be revealed.
Heidi told him she was also devastated. But, Tim is supporting her and will watch the new season. At this point, Disney has not announced who the new mentor is. But, they better have thick skin because Project Runway fans are very disappointed Tim will not be back.
