Faith Hill & Tim McGraw React With ‘Tears Flowing’ To ‘1883’ Finale
After Season 1 of 1883 ended with a shocking finale episode, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw opened up on their reactions. The two lead stars on the Yellowstone prequel series said the tears were flowing during the filming of the finale episode. Warning, if you have not yet seen the finale, the following contains major spoilers.
Shocking 1883 finale episode
1883 is the origin story of the Dutton family and a prequel to the popular Paramount+ series, Yellowstone. The show premiered on December 19, 2021, and follows the events that led to the creation of the Montana ranch of the series. Meanwhile, the story also follows James (Tim McGraw) and Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill) as they travel from Texas. The couple is aided by veteran frontiersman, Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott).
Episode 9 of Season 1 of 1883, titled Racing Clouds, had concluded on a major cliffhanger. Viewers will recall that the episode ended with Margaret and James’ eldest daughter, Elsa (Isabel May) shot with an arrow. While she survived the initial hit, an infection started to threaten her life.
As Elsa is the narrator of the series, and Season 2 has already been announced, fans expected her to make a recovery from her wound. However, the final episode was totally shocking when she finally succumbed to her wound.

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw are married in real life and sat down with Variety to discuss the shocking finale. McGraw admitted that being parents themselves made it harder. He said the hardest part for him was not to be emotional too early.
Meanwhile, Faith agreed, saying it is really hard, even now, to talk about the episode. She said once the tears start coming, she can’t stop them. At this stage, neither actor knows how the situation will play out on their character’s marriage. Meanwhile, Tim said he is “as anxious as anyone to see what happens.”

Faith explained that when she finally finished reading Episode 10 to Tim, they both just sat there. She said it was one of the most incredible stores they have ever read. Meanwhile, she said she knows the weight and responsibility of playing Margaret and telling the story and bringing her to life. She didn’t want to fail. Moreover, she said it is going to be a good thing that fans hate that ending as it has to be that way and they know it.
“It’s gonna be devastating. Why would you watch stuff if it doesn’t purge your emotions?’ she added.

McGraw explained that both of their characters and really strong people and want to be strong for their family. However, he said they have daughters, and because Isabella looked like she could be one of their daughters, it made it really hard. Tim said how hard it was for parents to play the role, as you don’t want to go into any dark places in your mind about your own kid.
Faith went on to say that, as a mother, she can’t allow herself to go there. She admitted that it is really hard, even now to talk about the 1883 finale as when the tears start, she can’t stop them.
So far, it is unknown what Season 2 of 1883 will bring – will it have a new narrator now Elsa is gone? Fans will just have to wait and see.
