Matt James Details Reconciliation With Rachael After Controversy
Another Bachelor has come and gone since Matt James chose to give his final rose to Rachael Kirkconnell. People haven’t stopped being fascinated with their relationship and most fans of the franchise are rooting for the couple.
Kirkconnell’s controversy surrounding racially insensitive pictures that were revealed of her overshadowed the pair’s relationship while the show aired. While onscreen they were falling in love and getting to know each other, off-screen, things were falling apart. The situation ended with Matt and Rachael calling it quits. They did reconcile in secret after the dust settled and decided to work hard to make their relationship work.
Matt went onto Good Morning America and said getting back together wasn’t going to happen. Meanwhile, Rachael still called him the love of her life on Instagram. James said there was a lot of work needed and he needed time to process everything.
Matt James Wanted To Make It Work
Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell couldn’t stay away from each other long. They needed to get away from the constant scrutiny and figure things out. This is why they attempted to lay low for as long as possible. They were caught out together, or they might have continued to be private.
When it came to forgiving Rachael, he said there was a time during reconciliation when it became obvious the way she was working on the relationship looked different from his. She told him if you want to make it work, then let’s do it She said if he didn’t, then she’d let him go do his own things. Matt said that “was an ultimatum that he needed.” Getting the kick in the pants from her, he decided to follow commit to their relationship and put in the hard work.
According to US Weekly, Matt said, “it’s on people who care about being allies to do the work to be truly antiracist. And I think it’s unfair to leave people without the ability to unlearn and be better.”
He Revealed The Gritty Details In His Book
Matt James opened up a lot about how the controversy with Rachael affected him. He said, “I shared how it felt seeing her, a woman I loved, embody a role that had once so antagonized me.” Continuing he said Rachael didn’t use her ignorance as an excuse and she apologized for his pain. Matt forgave her.
He also revealed they didn’t get back together right away. Matt admitted he hooked up with some, “former flings.” He now acknowledges that was a mistake and he betrayed her. After they met in Atlanta, he would be all in and he hasn’t regretted a second of their time together.
