Matt James first met Rachael Kirkconnell in late 2020. Viewers didn’t meet her until The Bachelor Season 25 premiered in January 2021. Bachelor Nation fans had high expectations for James’ season, as he was the first Black lead in the history of the franchise.
However, it ended up being one of the most controversial seasons ever. As episodes started airing on ABC, photos of Rachael Kirkconnell attending an antebellum-themed college party in 2018 surfaced online.
Matt James found out about the photos at the same time as the rest of the world. However, at that point he was already in love with Kirkconnell. The season ended with Rachael Kirkconnell as the winner.
It was revealed during the After the Final Rose special immediately following the finale that Matt James had broken up with Rachael due to the photos. The split didn’t last long – the former couple reunited shortly after the March finale and have been together ever since.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Season 25 was filmed in isolation at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania.
To celebrate the anniversary of their first meeting, Kirkconnell and James returned to the resort in early 2022. In fact, fans thought the Bachelor alum might finally propose to Rachael. They were disappointed when he didn’t. But is Matt James dropping clues now that he’s ready for marriage?
Is Matt James ready to propose to Rachael Kirkconnell?
Matt James took to his Instagram at the end of February to ask his followers an important question – “What’s the right age to get married?”
The inquiry accompanied a video of some of his friends sharing their thoughts on the question. It appears that Matt James has marriage on his mind.
In the video, Rachael Kirkconnell shares her own thoughts on the idea of marriage. People should get married when they are ready, the final rose winner said. But for women, 28 is a good age. However, men should wait until they are 31 or 32.

Interestingly, Matt James is 30 and Rachael is 25. Could she be hinting that she’s ready for a commitment?
Responses to the post were varied. Some thought early 30s was the right time to get married. Others said marrying young worked for them.
