Matt James Reveals What You Didn’t See On ‘The Bachelor’
Matt James is doing something many leads in the Bachelor franchise have done before him. He’s releasing a book. His memoir, First Impressions: Off-Screen Conversations with a Bachelor on Race, Family, and Forgiveness, is sharing things you didn’t get to see on his season.
The drama between the women got nasty at times. Katie Thurston, who would go on to become The Bachelorette, brought bullying to Matt James’ attention. Matt said, “there’s a lot that needed to be shared … but I want a chance to share a little bit more of who I am and put context to a lot of the things that we scratched the surface of.”
Matt James Is Very Excited To Share With Fans
Matt James announced his book with a post that says, “my story unedited.” According to US Weekly, the book will be out in May 2022.
James had an unconventional trip to The Bachelor. He wasn’t on one of the seasons fans watched before becoming the lead. A lot of people knew him as being Tyler Cameron’s best friend. Tyler was a fan favorite and final two on Hannah Brown’s season.
Usually, when someone becomes the lead it’s after they’ve been on a previous season. Matt also faced a bit of pressure as the first black Bachelor. With his winner Rachael Kirkconnell, the two also faced a lot of challenges after some of her past actions came to light. She’d attended a racially insensitive party with her sorority.
The DWTS Star Says He Couldn’t Have Done It Without Rachael
Matt James said he couldn’t do Dancing With the Stars without Rachael Kirkconnell’s support He said, “she came to every performance, she was picking me up from practice. She was a rider.”
He also said he thinks she could knock the show out of the park if she decided to do it. After the tiebreaker vote that sent him home, Matt was asked if he still got along with the cast of DWTS. He said, “you really become a part of that community when they invite you in to be a part of Dancing With the Stars.” He’s excited to see who comes out as the winner.
Fans Are Sharing Praise For His Opportunity To Tell His Story
Bachelor Nation is happy for Matt James. Ben Higgins said, “congrats Matt, hoping for the best as you walk through the book journey.” Fans are also happy for Matt. One said, “congratulations, Matt! I grew up with difficult beginnings and overcame… looking forward to being inspired by your story!”
Another said, “excited for this and to read about the challenges of being biracial and how that impacts a child’s identity and sense of belonging.” Fans will have to wait for the book’s release to get any behind-the-scenes looks.
