‘American Idol’ Undergoes Major Schedule Change Before Finale
American Idol fans will want to be aware of an upcoming schedule change before the Season 22 finale. Even though there are only a few weeks left in the competition, the network is shaking up the schedule. Keep reading to see what changes are going to be made, plus what you can expect during the season finale.
Season 22 Finale Will Pay Tribute To Katy Perry
American Idol is down to the Top 7 contestants now. The finalists include Emmy Russell, Abi Carter, Julia Gagnon, Jack Blocker, Triston Harper, McKenna Faith Brienholt, and Will Moseley. Three of these individuals will be on the Season 22 finale.
It was recently announced that Jon Bon Jovi would have a hand in mentoring the Top 3 contestants on American Idol this season. At the end of the finale, the winner will be crowned. On top of that, Ciara will serve as a mentor and Meghan Trainor will be taking the stage to perform once again.
There will also be a tribute to Katy Perry during the American Idol Season 22 finale. After seven years on the judge’s panel, Katy is leaving the competition show. She revealed earlier this year that she is planning to focus on creating new music and performing.
When it comes to who will replace Katy Perry in the upcoming season(s) of Idol, there is still no telling who it might be. “There are a few people at the top of that short list that could be great,” Ryan Seacrest said. “We should make that decision soon, though, I hope.”
The long-time American Idol host also opened up about the impact Katy Perry has had on the competition show. “[Katy] just brought an amazing generosity and love and big heart, that kind of spirit to the show,” he said. “To whoever comes in, we hope they’ll have that same kind of impact.”
American Idol Season Finale Schedule Change
The season finale is slated to air on May 19. However, the network revealed that there will be fewer episodes airing than viewers may have expected. Until now, American Idol has been airing on Sunday and Monday nights.
From now on, leading up to the finale, there will only be a new episode airing on Sunday. The last Monday night episode aired on April 29.
Another change being made to this season’s American Idol finale is that it will only be a single-night event. In the past, the network has done what it could to stretch the finale out, often airing it over two nights.
The Season 22 finale will air in one night, but it will be a three-hour event. During the finale, the last three contestants will be singing two Disney songs each.
The next episode of American Idol will air on Sunday, May 12 at 8 p.m. EST.
