‘Vanderpump Rules’ ‘Scandoval’ Created To Avoid Cancellation
Was ‘Scandoval’ created to keep Vanderpump Rules from being canceled? They had a lackluster Season 9 and understandably so. With that being said, was it simply a production stunt to get ratings up and ensure another season? Read on for more details and to see what fans had to say.
Vanderpump Rules ‘Scandoval’ Created To Avoid Cancellation
After Season 8 of Vanderpump Rules ended, Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute were fired. Along with them, Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright departed the series. The show struggled some in Season 9 without the OG cast and then the following season began. Within weeks, it came out that Tom Sandoval and Rachel Leviss had been having an affair. This was all while he was in a nearly decade-long relationship with co-star, Ariana Madix who was also best friends with Leviss. Immediately, ratings for new and old episodes spiked which made some question if this was a staged situation.
Everyone denied that it was disingenuous and this was a true blue affair between two cast members. Now, with Season 11 prepping to start on Januar 30th, some fans still doubt if it was real. A Reddit thread was started to discuss the legitimacy of ‘Scandoval.’ Here’s what the OP wrote:
- Scandoval has made me suspicious. I’ll preface this my saying, I know many storylines on bravo are producer driven, but there is a part of me that believes some, or all of the VPR cast believed the show would be cancelled and maybe created the scandal to stay relevant.
They went on to note that it seemed to work so well in fact that other shows have begun mimicking the formula. So, did fellow Redditors agree with this idea?

I don’t think Scandoval was faked because both Sandoval and Ariana have WAY too much pride to go along with it.
-
Vpr wasn’t filming when it happened so I don’t believe it was staged.
- I think Scandoval was real and blew up reality TV in the best way possible.
- Why would Raquel agree to be the most hated woman in America? There is no way this was fake.
Other Scandals
Bravo has seen other epic scandals since Vanderpump Rules and ‘Scandoval.’ Kyle Richards and her husband, Mauricio Umansky separated as the new season of RHOBH began. That meant that the show picked up after filming had ended to get cast reactions. This was what happened with Pump Rules as filming had stopped in September 2022 but the affair came out in March 2023. Therefore, they all came back to filming to see the aftermath. In RHOSLC, a new girl named Monica was cast but it was revealed in the finale that she owned a social media account, trolling the women. Bravo was clearly onto something.
Do you feel ‘Scandoval’ was staged or were these people genuinely in a love affair that made an explosion? Let us know and watch Vanderpump Rules when it returns to Bravo on January 30th.
