Luke Macfarlane Returns To Hallmark, Talks About Candace Cameron Bure
Luke Macfarlane has been a Hallmark hunk for years. Nicknamed the King of Christmas, fans were disappointed to learn that his last Hallmark movie would be A Magical Christmas Village with Alison Sweeney and Marlo Thomas. He was suddenly in a lot of publications and in big demand. The Taking A Shot At Love star has been in a cornucopia of projects such as the LGBTQ+ romcom Bros, as well as Apple TV’s Platonic with Seth Rogan, and Rose Byrne.
However, there was a recent Ashley Williams social media post with Luke that got fans wondering if he changed his mind. Now, in a new interview, The Mistletoe Promise star has revealed that he is returning, why he loves Hallmark, and has something to say about Candace Cameron Bure as well.
Why is Luke Macfarlane coming back to Hallmark?
Luke Macfarlane Just Made A Hallmark Christmas Movie
Christmas is not Christmas without a Luke Macfarlane movie. Thankfully, 2023 promises to be a fantastic Christmas because Luke just made a new Hallmark Christmas movie. According to his recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Juilliard-trained actor is coming back to Hallmark.
Hallmark has been very good to me, and I have agreed to do a Christmas movie for them this year.
Luke Macfarlane Shares His Feelings On Hallmark’s Inclusivity
Luke loves working on Hallmark sets. “What’s been always fun about the Hallmark movies is how much leeway they give you and the pace.” No matter the role, it will certainly be fun to see what sort of role he will portray. However, he is not going to only play LGBTQ+ characters. “Anyone that knows anything about me, knows I’m an openly gay guy.” He went on to point out that although he is not a “household name,” he appreciates that the audience is open-minded whether he plays straight or queer roles.
In that, he also applauded how far Hallmark has come. “Hallmark is absolutely making efforts to create queer content, and I applaud them for that.” He commends the network, and although they may be the “butt of jokes” due to the sort of “limited nature of their cast, but they’re really changed that, and they’re really continuing to do that.” Luke also pointed out that he believes this is authentic, not just for publicity and the press.
Citing The Holiday Sitter, starring Jonathan Bennett, in the first Hallmark LGBTQ+ lead couple in a Hallmark Christmas movie, Luke pointed out how this movie was a big success, and there is an audience for more diverse stories.
But, not everyone has been open to this diversity, and one of Luke’s former co-stars has created a lot of headlines with her anti-gay comments.
Luke Macfarlane Talks About Candace Cameron Bure’s ‘Traditional Marriage’ Comments
Many Hallmark Christmas fans consider Luke’s movie with CCB, A Shoe Addict’s Christmas an all-time favorite. However, the King of Christmas did have something to say about her Hallmark Channel comments. Last fall, Candace Cameron Bure told the WSJ that she went to Great American Family because their movies featured “traditional marriage.” This made headlines and shocked the LGBTQ+ community.
What did Luke have to say? In his always thoughtful and gracious way, he shared his feelings. “It’s that whole thing that was, why does me having visibility make yourself any less different? I think that we all deserve a place in the media, in the film world.”
