However, Donald’s time on the show this season came to an end with the Blood Moon triple elimination. Seeing three tribal councils take place in one episode, Donaldson was sent home with two new-era players, Genevieve Mushaluk and Kamilla Karthigesu.

During a recent conversation with TV Insider, Donaldson shared that his fate was sealed before the votes were cast. He even suggested that it was something of an open secret.

At the story of Season 50, Colby lost his vote during the premiere and wouldn’t get it back until after his first tribal council. However, the Blood Moon elimination proved his first tribal council would be his last. He also endured a foot injury that could soon see him medevacked out of the game at the end of the episode.

According to Donaldson, the tribal council was edited to create more suspense about the results. He shared that, in reality, his group told host Jeff Probst that his elimination was “a done deal.” He added, “We all told Probst that, and so he pivoted tribal council.”

Donaldson Also Made Sure To Give Fans An Update About His Foot

Donaldson further explained, “I knew I was going home, and so there was no scrambling, there was no conversation to be had at tribal that would potentially save me. It was a done deal, regardless of the way it looked; we all knew it… The reality was Probst was even aware that I was getting voted out, which is why he gave me the platform as long as he did because he knew I was going.”

While viewers didn’t see Colby’s elimination as such an open secret, the Survivor legend still praised the episode’s editing. He shared, “It’s cut in a very creative way, and it works and it looks good.”

Colby, Cirie Fields, and Benjamin “Coach” Wade were still given a chance to reflect on their history with the series. This was done to give them a chance to say goodbye. He also noted, “It was special for me to get to say goodbye to the game that I love with them being there, even though they were the ones who voted me out.”

Earlier in the conversation, Colby also gave an update about his foot. He shared, “The infection is what was the worst, and that might have taken me out of the game had I not been voted out. But once I got out of the game, they were able to give me antibiotics and knock it out, knock the infection out. And then the, the ligament ended up healing. All good now.”
