Gayle King Seemingly Struck Deal To Stay At CBS
Viewers have been watching Gayle King on CBS Mornings for years. Late last year, fans grew concerned about rumors that King could be leaving her role on the show or the network in the near future. However, inside sources recently claimed King might have made a deal in order to stay on the show.
Gayle King A Legacy At CBS Mornings
The Chevy Chase, Maryland-born King got her start in television with WJZ-TV in Baltimore. Following this, she would become better known for her work with CBS, often based out of New York.
In 2012, King became a co-anchor on CBS This Morning. Through this show, she would become the co-host of CBS Mornings, starting in 2021.

In recent months, there had been rumors that King’s time with CBS Mornings would soon come to an end. However, an inside source recently claimed that she was able to strike a deal to keep things the way they are.
Reportedly, King had agreed to take a pay cut and will move to a lighter schedule. This takes place before King’s contract is set to expire in May.
On his own Naughty But Nice Substack, Rob Shuter claimed that an insider told him, “Gayle knew exactly what she wanted: less work, less stress, but still the spotlight.” This also comes as a shakeup from CBS News chief Bari Weiss, who oversaw the promotion of King’s co-host, Tony Dokoupil, to CBS Evening News.
As Shuter reported, King’s new salary is $10 million. This is down from an estimated $13 to 15 million, which is still a hefty paycheck. According to Shuster, the deal was more than financial.
The Deal Was Reportedly Dubbed A ‘Win-Win’ Situation For King & CBS
Shuster shared, “She didn’t just take a pay cut… She traded hours, meetings, and daily grind for the freedom to do special segments and interviews she actually wants to do.”
Another insider added, “She’s basically moving into a ‘special projects’ role.” The deal will reportedly still be beneficial for her. As they continued, “She can still headline big interviews, still be a face for the network, but she won’t be chained to a morning show desk five days a week.”
A network executive also called the deal a “win-win.” As they noted, Gayle will keep her presence with the network, and CBS keeps her on board.
As previously reported, late last year, King previously shared that “changes” could be coming to CBS Mornings during an appearance on Sherri. This had sparked talk about rumors over whether or not she was leaving the show. At the time, however, she shared she didn’t want to divulge too much about what was going on.
