Truth Behind Gayle King Leaving ‘CBS Mornings’
Gayle King’s job at CBS Mornings is in danger. The longtime anchor is reportedly on the chopping block as CBS looks to cut costs and rebrand the news department. Keep reading for the truth about her leaving the morning show next year.
Truth Behind Gayle King Leaving CBS Mornings
News broke in late October that Gayle King was out at CBS Mornings. Variety was the first to report the shocking news. Several sources with CBS told the outlet that the move was part of the network revamping its news division. The rebranding is a result of the merger between Paramount Global, which owns CBS, and Skydance Media.

Mass layoffs to cut costs at CBS began in October, two months after the merger went through. Big changes are coming to CBS Evening News and CBS Mornings. John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois are leaving the evening news and CBS. The entire news division left the Times Square studio in September to returned to the CBS Broadcasting Center in another area of New York City.
New sources revealed more to News Nation about Gayle King’s future at CBS. According to the insider, the anchor is leaving CBS Mornings but not the network. “She will technically stay with the network. Gayle will do special projects and bigger interviews — like what Diane Sawyer and Hoda Kotb do,” the source claimed.
The insider suggested that the new CBS News editor in chief, Bari Weiss, is “not a fan” of Gayle King. The issue reportedly stems from claims that the CBS Mornings anchor provided questions ahead of an interview with author Ta-Nahisi Coates.
Furthermore, Gayle King’s flight to orbit with Katy Perry and Lauren Sanchez Bezos on the Blue Origin space flight was an issue. The million-dollar endeavor was slammed relentlessly on social media as out of touch, especially amid a crumbling economy.

The backlash put Gayle King on the defense, further damaging her reputation at CBS News.
She Addresses Speculation In New Comments
The news of her departure from CBS Mornings was news to Gayle King. TMZ approached her leaving the studios after the news broke. At the time, she said that what she was hearing in the media wasn’t the same as what she was hearing in the CBS Broadcasting building. Furthermore, she refused to discuss her contract in the press.

The Daily Mail caught up with Gayle King at the 2025 Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York City earlier this week. The outlet asked if the news anchor would stay at CBS. “I’m still there. I’m planning to be there,” she said.
Gayle King played coy when pressed for more about her rumored departure. She quipped, “No, what do you know?”
In an October statement, CBS said that there had been “no discussions” about her future with the network after her contract expires in May 2026. The statement called Gayle King a “valued part” of the network, which could hint that they want to keep her around, even if it’s not on CBS Mornings.

She needs to stop lairing. She is old and the networks are looking for new and young. Just like government needs new and young. We have a brunch of fools running the government. The democratic republicans.
