Netflix Makes Massive Deal, Could Own TLC, CNN & More
Netflix recently announced plans to undergo a massive deal with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). The deal is expected to impact a number of networks that fall under the WBD banner. Thanks to this, many fans are wondering what could happen to some of their favorite shows
A Few Big Franchises Have Already Been Named In A Recent Netflix Announcement.
This past Friday, Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed reports that they have entered into an agreement. Reportedly, the deal could be worth around $72 billion.
The announcement is also rather timely. This comes out during a bidding war with Comcast and Paramount Skydance, who have also reportedly shown interest in WBD.

As part of their agreement, Netflix will take ownership of Warner Bros’ film and TV studios. This includes HBO and HBO Max, giving Netflix access to franchises like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, The Wizard of Oz, and the DC universe. However, the agreement is subject to regulatory conditions, meaning transactions will likely have to be reviewed going forward.
In a statement, Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, shared, “Our mission has always been to entertain the world. By combining Warner Bros.’ incredible library of shows and movies—from timeless classics like Casablanca and Citizen Kane to modern favorites like Harry Potter and Friends—with our culture-defining titles like Stranger Things, KPop Demon Hunters and Squid Game, we’ll be able to do that even better. Together, we can give audiences more of what they love and help define the next century of storytelling.”

With this announcement, fans of other networks and franchises under the WBD banner are wondering what this could mean for their favorite shows. As noted by TV Insider, this includes CNN, HGTV, TLC, TBS, and TNT.
Another Big Development Is Expected To Take Place During The Summer Of 2026
According to the outlet, these networks will stay where they are, at least for the time being. Reportedly, the deal doesn’t include the Global Linear Networks.
Instead, these networks are expected to eventually spin off into a separate publicly traded company, Discovery Global. This will include the company’s traditional TV assets. It is also expected to have a summer 2026 launch.

According to the outlets, Global Linear Networks covers entertainment networks like “TBS, TNT, TLC, HGTV, Magnolia Network, Food Network, Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet, Science Channel, OWN, Discovery Channel, TruTV, Destination America, Discovery Life, American Heroes Channel, and Travel Channel.” Shows and programs falling under this banner, from HGTV’s Home Town to TLC’s Sister Wives, will not be acquired by Netflix under the new deal.
