According to a news release, as shared on Instagram, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office shared, “Two Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies, along with officers from other agencies, fired at Morales.” The former deputy was later taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. At this time, it is unclear if Morales himself had fired gunshots at the officers at the time. Officers reportedly later found an empty gun at his residence.

This dramatic incident took place after an earlier tragedy. Morales’ wife called 911 earlier that morning. She claimed she watched Morales stab their 11-year-old son through online home security footage, as shared by outlets like NBC News.

In a release, police shared, “Just after 8 a.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a homicide on the 7600 block of Ferrell Way in Elk Grove, where the Elk Grove Police Department discovered that an 11-year-old boy had been murdered.”

According to reports, the child was taken to a hospital following the incident, where he was later pronounced dead. A 6-year-old girl was also in the home and was found safe and unharmed.

Morales Had Reportedly Been Fired Back In Early 2024

According to authorities, Elk Grove Police then issued out a description of Morales’ vehicle to surrounding police agencies. The car was soon spotted by Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper.

As the release continued, “Sheriff Cooper, deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, and officers from multiple allied agencies attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. Morales fled, leading them on a vehicle pursuit that ended near Interstate 5 and Highway 12, where an officer-involved shooting ensued.”

According to Fox 12 Oregon, a sheriff’s office spokesperson confirmed that Morales was a former Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy. He had been fired in February 2024 after he was caught using drugs.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has also confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the shooting. Two of its deputies have also been placed on administrative during the investigation.
