North Carolina Woman Sprayed With Rubbing Alcohol & Set On Fire

There has been a lot of news coverage in the last few months about shocking attacks with knifes or other weapons by strangers. But sometimes, danger lurks closer to home. A North Carolina woman is recovering from a scary domestic dispute. She was set on fire in her home. A suspect is in custody. Keep reading for all the horrifying details of the incident.

North Carolina Woman Set On Fire

The police were called to a home in Sylva, North Carolina around 7 a.m., on Friday, November 21st, for reports of a domestic dispute. What they found was truly shocking. A woman had been set on fire by her partner.

The perpetrator allegedly sprayed the victim down with rubbing alcohol and used a cigarette lighter to set her on fire. The suspect “poured it on the floor and then the couch where the female was sitting and then he lit the alcohol on fire,” the police report described the incident.

Assistant Police Chief Robbie Carter told PEOPLE magazine that the victim escaped serious injury. “Her shirt was burned but she wasn’t actually burned herself,” they told the outlet.

Shocking Reason For Alleged Domestic Violence

Domestic violence can happen at any time for even the most minor reasons. The victim told the police that the man was mad because she refused to get him an alcoholic beverage. “He would set her on fire if she didn’t get him a beer,” the victim recounted.

While she didn’t suffer serious burn injuries, the inside of the home wasn’t so lucky.. The couch, carpet and stove were reportedly damaged after he set the woman on fire.

Suspect In Custody

Patrick Tyson, 56, was arrested after the police came to the residence. He faces multiple charges, including felonies. He faces felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and first-degree arson.

Furthermore, the suspect also faces misdemeanor charges of assault on a female and misdemeanor injury to personal property. He’s at the county jail on $750,000 bail and returns to court on December 1, 2025.

According to multiple sources, Patrick Tyson has previous arrests for assault and other charges. Social media users reacted to the incident:
