The 2011 Infiniti G37 was allegedly being driven by Adilene’s 19-year-old boyfriend, Jose Gutierrez. Going at a high speed, he allegedly failed to slow for stopped traffic at a red hit, colliding with eleven vehicles. Various sources, such as Las Vegas Review-Journal, citing an LVMPD incident report, claimed that Gutierrez was speeding over 100 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

The outlet noted that Gutierrez sustained injuries himself following the crash. It was also shared, through the report, “The fact that the group of cars was stopped at the intersection, the light was red and clearly visible to other drivers, and the Infiniti still failed to decrease its speed as it approached is an indicator that Gutierrez was possibly impaired.”

On Facebook, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police shared that Gutierrez faces a number of charges. This includes two counts of open murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of battery with the use of a deadly weapon. It was noted, “Gutierrez remains at UMC in LVMPD custody receiving continuous care.”

A GoFundMe Campaign Asked For Help & Prayers On Behalf Of Duran’s Family

On social media, it was noted that weather had impacted the area during the time of the incident. As one commenter noted, “If I recall, it was pouring rain that day and I was down in that area. The streets had massive puddles. Even though some of us were slowing down, I was shocked at how fast some of the cars went by me.”

According to the statement, Duran and Garcia’s deaths marked “the 143rd and 144th traffic-related fatalities in LVMPD jurisdiction for 2025.” It was also noted, “Several others were transported to UMC Trauma, including one person in life-threatening condition and another in serious condition.”
