California Police Officer Saves Choking Baby In Cardiac Arrest, Video
A police officer recently stepped in to save the life of a choking baby in Upland, California. So, what happened with this situation, and what did the officer do?
Police Officers Save Lives On A Daily Basis
A lot of the time, when it comes to police officers, they make headlines for things like officer-involved shootings. Events like these grab public attention and become part of the national conversation. As tragic as these events may be, and as much as they take up a big part of the discussion, the other side of that coin is that police officers also save lives daily while in the line of duty.
As one recent example shows in Texas, police recently saved an infant who was pinned under a vehicle following a crash on the highway. In another recent incident out of Upland, California, a police officer saved a child who appeared to be choking and was unresponsive when the officer in question arrived on the scene. So, what else do we know about this situation, and what else went down?
Police Officer Saves Choking Baby
A California family recently faced a harrowing situation when their baby began choking. According to PEOPLE, “The 911 call came in around 2 p.m. local time and the officer arrived in minutes, according to a social media statement from the Upland Police Department, which also shared body camera footage of the incident. After arriving at the residential property, a woman, who was not publicly identified, rushed toward him while carrying the limp baby in her arms.”
The woman said, “Please, she won’t breathe. I’ve never dealt with this. Please, please, my baby.” From there, the police officer on the scene took the baby, cleared the airway, and began performing CPR on the infant. Luckily, the baby began to breathe just as paramedics arrived, and the infant was taken to a nearby hospital.
On Monday, around 2pm, we received a 911 call of a baby not breathing in the area of 13th Street and Campus Avenue. Officers arrived within minutes, saw the baby was unresponsive, and immediately began working on clearing the airway, followed by CPR.

According to police, the infant “started choking and went into cardiac arrest.” Following the incident, the infant was hospitalized. The good news, however, is that the baby is expected to make a full recovery following this harrowing situation.
The body cam footage shows the officer rushing to the scene, taking the baby, and performing compressions, and you can also see the end of the clip where paramedics take over. Thanks to the quick thinking of this officer, as well as the paramedics who arrived, they were able to save a life.
