Triple Homecoming Shootings In Mississippi Leave 8 Dead
Three separate homecoming events in Mississippi recently took a turn for the worse. Shootings at the three events, which were held on the same night, claimed the lives of eight people, with more injured. Information has also since come out about suspects involved in the case.
The Deadliest Attack Occurred In The Downtown Leland Area
Three different high school homecoming celebrations recently ended in gunfire in Mississippi. The area was said to be busier than usual as residents were celebrating a homecoming game.
Eight people were said to have been killed in the shootings, with around 20 people injured. One of the deadliest incidents was in the downtown Leland area around 12 AM local time on Saturday, October 11, in which four people died at the scene. Two other people later died at the hospital.

According to the Associated Press, of those injured, four were said to be in critical condition. State Sen. Derrick Simmons also shared that these people were flown to a medical center in the state capital, Jackson.
Simmons noted, “People were just congregating and having a good time in the downtown of Leland.” He was also told that the scene was “very chaotic” after the gunfire, as local authorities “responded from all over.”
Simmons continued, “It’s just senseless gun violence. What we are experiencing now is just a proliferation of guns just being in circulation.”
One witness, Camish Hopkins, also described the scene, sharing descriptions of people wounded and bleeding, complete with four people dead on the ground. Hopkins shared, “It was the most horrific scene I’d ever seen.”
A Few Arrests Have Been Made In The Case
During the moment, police tried to keep people behind crime-scene tape. Hopkins continued, “No one was trying to really help. Leland failed Leland yesterday, but I know that we can do better because this isn’t Leland.”
Meanwhile, a separate shooting in the town of Heidelberg left two people dead. Both of the victims were killed on a high school campus, later identified as Heidelberg High School, though it was unconfirmed if the two were students. A third shooting took place in Sharkey County.

There have since been a few arrests made concerning the shootings. On Facebook, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department shared that Tylar Jarod Goodloe was taken into custody regarding the Heidelberg High School shooting.
In another statement shared on Facebook, the Sharkey County Sheriff’s Office shared that authorities have “arrested and charged two individuals in connection with the shooting” in connection to the third shooting. According to a statement, “Sheriff Ceaser [wants] to make it absolutely clear that acts of violence in our community will not be tolerated. Our team of law enforcement officers are committed to pursuing justice swiftly and ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors that come to our county.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We ask the community to come together in support and remain positive as the investigation continues.”
