Kentucky Cheerleader Arrested After Dead Baby Found In Closet

There seems to be an increasing number of headlines about women facing charges after improperly discarding the remains of dead babies. A University of Kentucky cheerleader was arrested earlier this month after a dead baby was found in her off-campus home.

In the disturbing scene, the body was wrapped in a towel and placed in a trash bag. Laken Snelling, 21, reportedly admitted to the police that she gave birth to the baby. However, autopsy reports were inconclusive. Further testing is necessary to find out if the baby was stillborn or alive at birth.

The college student faces charges of abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant. She is currently under house arrest at her parents’ home in Tennessee after pleading not guilty.

In a more disturbing case, a landlord in Pennsylvania found the body of a decomposing baby after the tenant was evicted. The police later discovered the bodies of three more dead babies.

According to the landlord, Brent Flanigan, he was cleaning up the apartment after kicking the tenant out last month for non-payment. A strong odor while cleaning a closet led him to the gruesome remains of a dead baby in a trash bag. He immediately called the police.

The police discovered the remains of two more dead babies in a tote bag in the attic. They later revealed that the remains of a fourth baby were found.

Jessica Mauthe, 39, was arrested on multiple charges. She faces one count of criminal homicide, one count of involuntary manslaughter, four counts of concealing the death of a child and four counts of abuse of a corpse.

The woman admitted to giving birth and hiding the bodies of three of the deceased babies. One baby was born six years ago. She claimed that she passed out after giving birth, and the baby was dead when she came to.

Another baby was born alive and met a horrible end to its short life. She “removed the child from the toilet, wrapped a towel around the infant’s entire body, where it remained until it stopped making noises,” the police report says.

The woman has two living sons, 6 and 8. Her unnamed husband is reportedly incarcerated. Jessica Mauthe was denied bail and is being held at the Armstrong County jail.

The police didn’t reveal the details on where the fourth dead baby was found. They’re still investigating the case.
