Florida Girl Sucked Into Storm Drain As Grandma Cries On 911
A young girl in Florida was swept into a storm drain during a recent accident. Since the story has come to light, audio from the girl’s grandmother has now surfaced. The woman could be heard making a heartbreaking plea to a 911 operator as she explained the situation.
Heavy Rain Increased The Danger Of A Broken Water Main In Florida
Zaria Miller was playing with her brothers this past Sunday near a culvert in Sarasota, Florida, this past Sunday. Her grandmother watched the children, with them playing late in the afternoon.
At around 6:30 PM, a nearby water main broke, increasing suction as heavy rain poured down. These factors forced Zaria to be pulled into the sewage drainage system.

The girl’s grandmother then made a 911 call to help save the child. The audio, which was obtained by The U.S. Sun, read, “She got sucked into the culvert. There’s a water line flowing right out here. We were letting the kids play and she got sucked underneath into the culvert.”
The grandmother reportedly could be hearing sobbing so hard she was having problems breathing. At one point, the woman shared, “God, why did we let her swim in there?” She shared that Zaria was trapped in the tunnel under the road.
The Family Also Issued A Statement On Facebook
In addition to the grandmother, a passerby also reportedly called the police when she saw the family’s panic. Reportedly, children could be heard screaming in the background of the second call. First responders then arrived at the scene and lifted the storm grates and searched the area.
Zaria was found around 100 yards west on the street. Firefighters took her from the water and performed CPR. She was then taken to a nearby hospital. Tragically, she remained in critical condition until her death this past Thursday.
Taking to Facebook, Zaria’s parents announced the news of her passing. They shared, “Zaria Rosa Miller passed peacefully at 10:14 this morning. We would like to express our indescribable gratitude to the many family, friends, and strangers who prayed for, and sent well wishes her way.” In addition, they thanked the Sarasota County (FL) Sheriff’s Office, Sarasota County Emergency Services, and doctors and nurses at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.
The family has also since started a GoFundMe page to help the family deal with medical bills and funeral costs. The fundraiser’s organizer wrote, “It is with a broken heart I have to share that Zaria has received the ultimate healing and is in the arms of Jesus.”
