Bachelorette star Katie Thurston was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. She started treatment three months ago after initially being misdiagnosed. She was initially told she had Stage 3 cancer, but later found out she has Stage 4.

Katie recently underwent tests to find out if the treatment is working on the cancer yet. Ahead of her latest tests, she took to social media to share a previous bad experience with the cancer testing.

Katie Thurston Details Hurtful MRI Experience

Katie Thurston was initially diagnosed as Stage 3 because the hospital in California neglected to do a PET scan, which would have caught that the breast cancer had spread to her liver. She’s currently taking action against the hospital that misdiagnosed her.

Once she got the correct diagnosis, she began treatment. Even though her cancer is Stage 4, it is HER-, which means less aggressive and chemotherapy isn’t necessary. Instead, she’s on a regimen of oral medications.

The Bachelorette star had an MRI and PET scans scheduled for early July. She recently revealed the results of the scans. Before the recent MRI, she took to social media to share her previous experience with the test. The former reality star has been sharing every step of her cancer battle on social media to raise awareness about breast cancer, especially in young women such as herself. Katie Thurston is only 34.

Her pre-MRI Instagram post was about music offered during MRI scans. She wanted to know if that was an actual thing because she wasn’t offered music during her first MRI. She received many responses from followers confirming that most hospitals have music as an option during an MRI.

Katie Thurston said her feelings were hurt that the nurses lied to her during her first MRI scan when she asked to listen to music. She revealed that she planned to ask again during the scans earlier this month.

She returned to Instagram later with a video taken right before the MRI. Katie gave a thumbs down and said that music wasn’t available there.

However, the lack of music wasn’t the only issue Katie Thurston had during her first MRI. She made a video about the “mean girl” nurses she had. She said that she broke down crying after an attempt to inject contrast for the MRI didn’t go in the vein.

The Bachelorette star revealed that at the time, she was applying to join a clinical trial. The application was later denied once she found out she was Stage 4. Katie Thurston said that one nurse made a rude comment about her crying from a needle stick if she wanted to do a clinical trial. The nurse allegedly asked if Katie thought she was sure she was up to joining the trial after crying about the needle.

While telling the story on Instagram, Katie said that just because she cried doesn’t mean she’s not tough. Hopefully, her second MRI scan went smoother than the first, even if they didn’t have music.
