Bachelorette star Katie Thurston found out in February that she has Stage 4 breast cancer. She immediately started a treatment regimen of oral medications and monthly injections to block hormones. The injections sent her into early menopause, but they were necessary to stop the cancer from spreading. It had already spread to her liver.

She had scans earlier this week to see if the treatment is working. Katie revealed that the results showed a big change in the cancerous tumors. Keep reading for all the details.

BacheloretteĀ Reveals Truth About Her Cancer Diagnosis

Katie Thurston has been open and honest about battling cancer at such a young age. She’s only 34. Her cancer battle was delayed after she was initially misdiagnosed as Stage 3. Her previous doctors sent her to start chemotherapy, but right before she was supposed to start, the diagnosis changed.

TheĀ Bachelorette star has Stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to her liver. However, the cancer isn’t as aggressive as previously thought. Her new doctors recommended oral medication instead of chemotherapy.

In a bluntly honest post, Katie Thurston revealed that she actually found the lump about a year ago, but ignored it. She then delayed treatment several times. She said she delayed treatment to change doctors, which actually turned out to be a good thing. But then she delayed treatment again to try for a clinical trial that she was rejected for after finding out she had Stage 4, metastatic breast cancer.

Katie Thurston Says Her Tumors Have Changed

Katie Thurston started the oral medications about three months ago. She had an MRI and PET scan scheduled for July 4th to find out if the medication is working at all yet. She posted on social media last week that the hope was the tumors were either shrinking or hadn’t grown at all.

She made a video about the scans and posted it on Instagram. The tumors in her breast have shrunk slightly after just three months of treatment. That is great news, but she reminded her followers that she’ll be on the treatment for the rest of her life because there isn’t a cure for breast cancer yet. However, she’s hopeful that research advances will happen during her lifetime.

What’s Next

The news that the tumors in her breast have shrunk is the best case scenario. But she isn’t out of the woods completely yet. She is still waiting for the results of the PET scan to see if the cancer in her liver is growing or spreading.

She will update fans with that information when she gets it. Katie Thurston also made a post on the Boobie Broadcast channel she created to keep fans informed. She shared the actual test results of medical jargon for any of her followers interested in that kind of thing.

The cancerous lymph nodes in her right breast have decreased in size. The scans didn’t find any cancer in her left breast.

Many of her social media followers can relate to her battle with breast cancer, either personally or through a family member. She has a great support system rooting for the best possible outcome for the other scan.
