Keith Urban Takes On New Talent Show As Judge

Keith Urban was a popular judge on American Idol. He used his decades in the music industry to help up-and-coming singers hone their skills and possibly become huge stars themselves.
Now, he’s on the hunt for the next cowboy (or cowgirl.) Keep reading for all the details on the talent show he’s hosting and what the prize is.
Why Keith Urban Left American Idol
Keith Urban was already an established musician in his native Australia before he came to the U.S. to expand his audience. He released several albums, toured the world, and met his future wife, Nicole Kidman, in the years afterwards. His career took an unexpected but welcome turn in 2013.
He joined the Fox singing competition American Idol for Season 12. Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Nicki Minaj also served as judges that season. Keith Urban stayed on the singing show for four seasons, working with Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. when they replaced exiting judges.
American Idol was canceled in 2016 after 15 seasons. But it was revived by ABC in 2018 with an all new judging panel. Keith Urban wasn’t asked to return as judge. However, he did finally return to American Idol as a mentor in the Season 21 finale. He showed his support when Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood joined the judging panel for Season 23.
He Reveals New Talent Show
Keith Urban released his first solo album in the U.S. in 1999. He hasn’t stopped making music ever since. Music is his first love, however, he enjoys hyping up the new crop of singers looking for their big break. It was announced earlier this year that he was teaming up with Blake Shelton and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan for The Road, a singing competition to air on CBS later this year.
But that’s not the only talent competition he’s involved in this year. Keith Urban took to social media earlier this week to share an exciting and unexpected partnership with the Mexican-inspired brand Old El Paso.
The brand is on the hunt for the next cowboy or cowgirl and Keith Urban is the perfect country artist to serve as judge. The “Castin’ The Cowboy” summer campaign is seeking an entertainer who can sing and perform “taco ballads and fake guitars (and horses) to full-on cowboy-inspired performances.”
At the end of the competition, Keith Urban will crown one lucky winner Old El Paso’s newest cowboy. In an Instagram post, the “Somebody Like You” singer encourages his followers to name their favorite audition from the clip. He shared that two lucky winners will receive a signed belt buckle and “other goodies.”
Based on the comments, Elroy is the contestant in the lead so far. Follow the competition on Old El Paso’s Instagram or TikTok.

Keith Urban Extends World Tour
Keith Urban released his latest album, High, in 2024. It was his first album in nearly four years. His previous album released in 2020, The Speed of Now Part 1 peaked at number 7 on the country album charts. The new album entered the charts at number 10.
High was the singer’s twelve studio album. He initially started working on it in 2022 under the title 615 but he scrapped that album. Some of the songs on High were intended for the 2022 album.
The singer kicked off the High And Alive Tour in May in Orange Beach, Alabama, to support the new album. It wraps up in October before heading overseas.
“Playing live is what I live to do. Looking out from a stage and seeing people singing, forgetting about all the stress in their lives, cutting loose and feeling ALIVE — that’s what it’s about for me,” Keith Urban said at the time about his love of touring.
