‘GMA’ Michael Strahan Called Out For Mocking Robin Roberts
Michael Strahan and Robin Roberts are known for their banter on Good Morning America. However, one recent episode saw Strahan get called out after a comment to Robin Roberts referenced a previous moment on the show. This also came out during a discussion of a major current event.
Michael Strahan Discussed A Moment Involving Robin Roberts From Years Past On Good Morning America
Roberts has been part of Good Morning America since 2005, previously being known for her work with ESPN. A former professional football player, Strahan joined the series in 2016.
Though their time on the show, the two co-hosts are known for being good friends. However, there have been a few times when a comment from one to the other ended up causing a bit of backtracking.
Recently, Strahan was seen reporting from Vatican City to cover the recent passing of Pope Francis at the age of 88. During the discussion, Strahan noted he wasn’t able to meet the Pontiff before his passing.
Strahan then discussed a time when his co-host Roberts got the chance to meet the Pope back in 2013. After Roberts herself noted that it wasn’t Strahan’s first time being there, Strahan shared, “Yes. Not my first time, Robin. I know you have been here before. I did not get to meet the Pope as you did when you proclaimed that you were from America.”
As noted by Hello! Magazine, Strahan noticeably pronounced “America” with a hint of a Spanish accent, mocking the way Roberts pronounced the word during her time with the Pope. Notably, Pope Francis was originally from Argentina, being the first Pope to come from the Americas. He then tried to assure Roberts that the comment was all in good fun.
Robin Roberts Warned Strahan It Was A Little Too Late To ‘Clean It Up Now!’
As Strahan shared, “I had to throw that reference in there about being from America. But you know I love you.” He later added, “I wish you were here with me!”
Strahan even admitted that, “I don’t know how I would have reacted if I saw the Pope.” However, Roberts soon exclaimed, “Oh no, no no, don’t try to clean it up now!” She even joked on how he managed to give her “hard time” even when he was “thousands of miles away.” Throughout it all, George Stephanopoulos could be seen at Roberts’ side, giggling throughout Strahan and Roberts’ banter.
Strahan then shared, “I just want to say you guys are the best, and we’re all team players and I am throwing it back to you in America.” However, keeping the joke going, he still rolled his R’s when pronouncing “America.” Roberts ended things joking, “He is just digging himself out of that hole.”
