Ken Jennings Shares Heartbreaking Admission About Hosting Job
Ken Jennings has famously been on both sides of the Jeopardy! stage, going from a long-running contestant to the show’s eventual host. Thanks to this, he knows what he’s talking about when he talks about his experience being part of such a prolific show. Recently, he opened up about something that makes his hosting job harder than it seems.
Ken Jennings Recently Appeared On The Red Carpet At The TCM Classic Film Festival
Jennings previously became known to Jeopardy! fans as a contestant. During his original run, he won 74 consecutive wins, becoming one of the show’s biggest winners.
Later, Jennings returned to the show as a host in 2021 following the death of Alex Trebek. After originally splitting duties with Mayim Bialik, he officially became the show’s sole host in 2023.

Recently, Jennings made an appearance on the red carpet for the TCM Classic Film Festival. While speaking with Fox News Digital, putting his own experience and expertise to use, he offered fans a bit of advice if they want to compete on the show themselves.
Jennings advised, “I would say watching the show is the best way to prep for the show. If you watch ‘Jeopardy!’ like the rhythm of the host’s voice will kind of get into your pulse. You’ll know the kind of stuff that comes up, the kind of material. That’s how you become a good ‘Jeopardy!’ player.” Admitting that he did a lot of studying before his own time as a contestant, Jennings also advised cramming the names of the U.S. presidents and first ladies in order, as well as world capitals.
As the conversation continued, Jennings also admitted that his time as a contestant actually make his hosting job hard, since it’s easy to see himself in the players. He shared, “Everybody there has passed a very hard test to be on the show. So really it comes down to who can perform under pressure because these people are not used to doing this with lights and camera and everything.”
Jennings Noted That There Were Times When He Wanted To Help The Contestants, But Couldn’t
Jennings continued, noting that he’s “always thinking about their well-being because I remember what that’s like. It’s intense.” He also shared that there are a lot of times he wished he could do more to help the contestants.
The host even admitted to feeling helpless when he realizes players made a mistake on the show. He explained, “I saw somebody mess up her wager in Final Jeopardy! once, but once you lock in that wager, and she was just, ‘Oh no, I messed up the math.’ But I wish I could jump in and do people’s math for them, but I’m not allowed, constitutionally.”

Jennings also admitted that there were questions that made him nervous, especially back when he was the one competing. He noted, “There was always a lot of hockey on ‘Jeopardy!’ When I was on, and maybe because of Alex being Canadian, and it turned out I did not know as much about ice hockey as a genuine Canadian like Alex.”
