Recently, Jeopardy! fans heard a sharp joke that Ken Jennings said during the post-show that originally wasn’t aired. But seemingly the sly host kicks the defeated champion while they are down. Adding insult to injury, Ken jabs the leaving champ with a Survivor joke upon their loss.

Drew Basile Strikes Hard

Lately, fans are getting to witness an interesting crossover between Survivor and Jeopardy! One lucky player, Drew Basile, is on the show after his Survivor competition but has shown his smarts on the stage by hitting a new Jeopardy! major milestone. Notably, on his first appearance, he struck hard and beat the 15-day champ, Adriana Harmeyer, in a runaway. Ken Jennings takes a dig, but other fans had a few things to say as well.

Fans voice their opinion about Drew’s significant start:

  • “I’m actually a little sad we’re losing Adriana Harmeyer from @Jeopardy after so many days,” one fan says on X.
  • “Adriana Harmeyer is ALWAYS a champion to me.”
  • “Weird sadness / nerd rage over #Jeopardy today.”
  • “Well, I was expecting Drew to do well, but I didn’t think he’d have a runaway. Hope to see him get at least 4 wins and make the TOC as well.”
  • “I like Drew! He seems like a goofball. I wonder if they asked him to stop pointing at the clues after the first break.”

However, after Drew Basile took his daring $10,000 Daily Double wager right out of the gate, Adriana Harmeyer didn’t have much room to return. Ken Jennings acknowledges Drew as a “giant killer” a term coined by Alex Trebek for overtaking long streaking Jeopardy! winners. But after the credits roll, Ken is talking with Adriana and takes a deep jab. Seemingly distraught by the loss, Adriana moves through the motions of passing the torch. Ken asks, “How does it feel now being a 15-game Jeopardy! champion, you know how the story ends?” Adriana gracefully replies, “Of course, I would have loved to keep going, but 15 is a nice good number, and I’m happy with that.” Then, Ken claps back, “You would like more,” giving a quick retort, “But I guess the tribe has spoken.”

After Ken references Survivor‘s popular line, in the background, the audience gasps and then players offer awkward laughs at the comment. However, Adriana takes the wisecrack in stride. She replies, “Unfortunately,” but shows her disappointment with a saddened sigh. But Ken offers a pleasant reminder, “We’ll see you in the Tournament of Champions, Adriana.” Then, he turned his attention to Drew’s win, “Drew, what a fantastic win!”

Ken Jennings Keeps Cheering On The Competition

Additionally, Drew Basile has moved on to win five days in a row and will contend for a sixth on Wednesday night. As such, he will be automatically invited to the Tournament Of Champions. While Ken Jennings has been complimentary of the Survivor alum’s playing, some fans think his ego may get in his way. Drew is self-admittedly a “know-it-all” but seems to be backing it up.

  • “I’m not a big fan of fist-pumping in sports, but especially not on game shows. I’m sure he’s a perfectly nice kid and very bright, but his social immaturity shows,” one Facebook user says.
  • “I love the exuberance of youth, and I’m amazed when someone that young is so knowledgeable. Maturity comes with age,” another fan reminds other people.
  • “Poor sportsmanship.”
  • “Just over-excited. Not poor sportsmanship.”
