The Garfield Movie hits theaters on May 24, 2024. Directed by Mark Dindal, who also directed Disney’s animated classic The Emperor’s New Groove, this is two months after its initial release date, as Sony and Columbia chose to push it into the summer months to ensure a bigger audience when school lets out.
For those who wait for streaming, the movie won’t likely hit at-home screening until the end of summer, at the earliest. However, we do know that Sony has a first-release deal with Netflix. This means when it comes out for at-home streaming, Netflix will be its first home. For those who want to buy it digitally, Sony’s deal has a 45-day minimum wait for it to arrive, so that will be around July.

The main plot of The Garfield Movie sees the cast have a reunion with his biological father (Samuel L. Jackson) and a heist that sees Garfield and Odie in over their heads. This is the first time Garfield has come to the movie screens in an animated theatrical release.
