Tom Selleck Breaks Silence On ‘Blue Bloods’ Return
Tom Selleck is not happy that CBS announced it is canceling Blue Bloods. However, he has had some big things to say about the news as he talks about as possible return. The actor feels that there is more life in the series, and he points out the fan support as a reason why CBS is not being “sensible.”
Here is what Selleck had to say about his show’s future and what he feels should happen next.
Tom Selleck Wants Blue Bloods To Return For Another Season
Blue Bloods has been on CBS for 14 seasons. It started its run in 2010 and has been part of many television viewers’ lives for well over a decade. However, CBS announced that it was ending the series with the fourteenth season, which consisted of only 18 episodes. The first 10 ends on May 17 and the final eight will air on CBS from October 2024 to December 2024.
However, Tom Selleck is angry at the cancelation and said it doesn’t make sense. He also thinks that CBS might change their mind. CBS canceled S.W.A.T. after its sixth season but backed up and decided to allow the show to run for one more season to wrap up the storylines. Could it do the same thing for Blue Bloods?
“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck said when asked about the show’s future on CBS Sunday Morning. “We’re the third-highest show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back”
Selleck also said they are not slipping in quality, and things are as good as they ever were. He also said they are holding their place in the ratings, so he is confused about why they wanted to cancel the show.
Tom Selleck isn’t the only cast member mad. Donnie Wahlberg appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show last month and was disappointed. “I think everybody’s really upset and sad, but also happy and satiated,” he said. “More upset and sad, more upset and sad.”.
Why Is CBS Canceling Blue Bloods?
Tom Selleck has no idea why CBS is canceling Blue Bloods (much like Shemar Moore was confused about S.W.A.T.). However, this might be the case of CBS wanting to start new shows and phase out older ones to keep things fresh on the network
While Blue Bloods is ending, CBS is working on a Fire Country spinoff called Sheriff Country. This will be part of the network’s 2025-2026 season. Morena Baccarin (Firefly, Deadpool) stars in the new series as Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone’s stepsister, Sheriff Mickey Fox.
Blue Bloods averaged 9.40 million viewers an episode for Season 13. Season 2 of Fire Country only averages between 5.0 and 5.9 million viewers an episode. It will take a lot to replace the viewers from Blue Bloods, which is Selleck’s main point.

Leave Blue bloods on. It is. Great show and my favorite!
Due to a work schedule I was it able to watch Blue Bloods originally.Hiwecer that is my # 1 show now..Marathon Wednesdays. Every night on UP Tv 11;00-3am and on its weekly scheduled night. I love the story line. I don’t watch a lot of other shows but I feel this show is so informative and deals with love on the police force. Please don’t cancel it.
Blue bloods is a great family cop show and it’s terrible that they are cancelling this show when the ratings are great so they can bring on a new show which probably won’t get watched by many viewers like Blue bloods does. Also cancelling NCIS Hawaii is a big mistake too when it hasn’t been on tv long enough.
