S.W.A.T. star Shemar Moore is preparing to say goodbye to the popular CBS show, but he’s still not ruling out another season.

In May 2023, CBS announced that S.W.A.T. would not be picked up after six seasons. However, just a of couple days later the network decided to reverse that decision. Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, and Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, released a joint statement regarding their decision. “We have listened to our viewers and their outpouring of passion for S.W.A.T. and have reached an agreement to renew it for a final season of 13 episodes to air during the 2023-2024 broadcast year,” the statement read.

On February 16, the seventh and presumably final season of S.W.A.T. will premiere on CBS. Shemar Moore, who stars as Sgt. Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, is still not ready to call it quits.

Shemar Moore On The ‘Good Run’ That S.W.A.T. Has Had

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Moore spoke about S.W.A.T. and his sprawling career as an actor. “Oh man, it’s been such a good run. And, you know, this is my 30th year in the game, so I pinch myself,” Moore said. “[It’s been] seven years of a really fun show. And the word on the street is it’s our final season. But, you know, I’m an optimist.”

S.W.A.T. debuted on CBS in November 2017 and quickly became a fan-favorite show for the network. The show is based on the original S.W.A.T. series, which aired just two seasons in 1975-1976. Playing an iconic character from a classic show is something that Moore values greatly. “So, if this is the final season, I’ll just say thank you. It’s been an incredible run to play tough guy Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson,” Moore shared. “Obviously, I’m biased, and there’s no such thing as the best show, but I do think we’ve been a very unique show. It’s like watching an action movie but on TV.”

Despite nearing the end of the show’s run, Moore still can’t believe he was able to land such a fun job. “It’s just fun to go save the day and chase the bad guys and we really do some exciting things,” Moore said. “[This] may be the last time we put this uniform on, it may be the last time we do a fight scene, a car chase, a motorcycle chase, repel off a building.”

“We’re little kids playing super cops. I mean, we really are having a good time. So we hate to see it go. But again, I’m not quite sure it’s the end, but that’s just me. I know that the door is not completely closed.”

Saying ‘Goodbye The Right Way’

With over 120 episodes under its belt, S.W.A.T. has offered up a lot of intense storylines. But Moore says there are still plenty of stories to tell. “I want to keep making the show because there’s so many stories and and we are resonating around the world, literally,” he said. “I’m just proud of that and grateful to be able to do something that people worldwide are moved by.”

As the Season 7 premiere inches closer, Moore can’t help but be optimistic about the future. “We premiere shortly after the Super Bowl. And if the numbers are good, maybe we’ll change some minds and maybe we can keep on trucking,” Moore said.

Although he still holds out hope for an eighth season, Moore is also content with ending the show on a high note.”Just be able to say goodbye the right way. And so these final 13 episodes that we get, we’re making the most of it.”

  1. I would Love to see S.W.A.T. continue on to Season 8. This show has touched on so many subjects, that are real life for a lot of people. I would like to see more about their private lives. I hope this is not the last season, as it is a really great show.
