Good Morning America teased an emotional interview with Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist would happen this week. Bachelor Nation fans speculated that one or both of the senior couple might open up about health issues.
Instead, the Bachelor franchise’s first Golden Bachelor and his wife of three months announced that they are divorcing. The news didn’t come as a surprise to some fans, especially after Gerry and Theresa confessed on a podcast recently that they don’t live together. They don’t even live in the same state. Gerry never fully relocated from his home state of Indiana to New Jersey, where Theresa lives.
The Golden Bachelor couple were spotted out together amid the rumors, which indicated to some that their marriage was just fine. Except it clearly wasn’t.

During the Good Morning America interview, Gerry Turner said that he and Theresa had several tough conversations about their marriage. “The things that strike me the most in our conversations it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families,” he said, per Us Weekly.
They came to a joint conclusion that living together isn’t feasible and therefore, they should divorce. “So, we look at these situations and I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart,” Gerry said about the decision to divorce.
But did they even try? According to Theresa Nist, the former couple explored multiple living options. “We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision,” she said on GMA.
Susan Noles Confirms Reason For Divorce
Susan Noles was one of the first Golden Bachelor alums to speak out about the divorce news. She officiated the televised Golden Wedding in January. Susan shared her thoughts on the split in a joint video chat with bestie Kathy Swarts. They both reminded fans to be kind to the heartbroken Gerry and Theresa.
Bachelor Nation fans took to the comments on Susan’s Instagram post with more questions. One person asked why Gerry and Theresa are divorcing. Susan’s answer closely mirrors what Gerry said on GMA. “Neither one of them can leave their families,” she said.
However, another follower didn’t believe that was the true reason, speculating there must be more to the story. If there is, neither Theresa or Gerry are ready to address it.

Unable to leave their families, really? Blood is thicker than water. At this stage in their lives, both are set in their ways, and unwilling to change or compromise. What about Theresa’s career? Is she ready to retire? Stress obviously added to their unwillingness to compromise and put their love and happiness first. Very sad situation.

The whole concept is contrived, abnormal and almost guaranteed to fail since its purpose is skewed toward ratings, not true love. Theresa seemed sincere, but massively naive, but Gerry showed his true colors w how he treated a previous live-in partner, the opposite of his “aw shucks” persona he played on tv.

I think the show presented a rose picture too much to comprehend same with young or older persons. obviously their heart and soul prevailed..I predicted this long before this happened. Should have never encouraged marriage so soon. They knew each other but yet they did not..Happy it happened at this stage than later.

I’m sure it’s all a big scam….they didn’t even get to know each other long enough, shoot find a person in reality not on some screwy show that hooks you up with a bunch of choices….are people that desperate to find a mate thar they have to go on tv to choose the right one, just weird!!!!
They definitely did not know each other long enough. Almost the same thing happened with me. I was seeing someone that lived in a different city and we were going to get married but one of us had to move. He decided he would move where I am and we started looking at homes to buy. Then I realized that I really wasn’t in love with him at all and ended it. I was more in love with the thought of being in love. Thankful I realized it before actually going through with it. They needed more time.

I bet their children didn’t get along . neither one wanted to move and give up their freedom of being single.
