Whoopi Goldberg openly scolded a member of the audience on The View during Tuesday’s live show, effectively pausing the broadcast. She picked the person out of the crowd and called them out for unwelcome behavior while her co-hosts were speaking.  Keep reading to see why the seasoned panelist stopped the show to shame one of the audience members.

Whoopi Goldberg Calls Out An Audience Member For Shocking Behavior

The individual was trying to secretly record the Hot Topics portion of the show from his phone. Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sunny Hostin were talking about former President Trump’s legal issues. Whoopi interrupted them mid-sentence, staring at someone out in the audience.

“Hold on a second, hold on,” Whoopi Goldberg said. She got up from her seat at the table and approached the person, who stayed off-screen. “Sir, I have to stop you with the camera. Because I can see you. So, do me a favor, don’t pull it out again, I’d appreciate that. Thank you.”

Joy Behar didn’t catch on to what was happening. As Whoopi started walking back to the table and took her seat once again, she asked, “What was he doing?” Sara Haines took a sip from her mug and replied, “Recording,” confirming what the audience member was doing that made Whoopi so mad.

Apparently, the live audience members are asked to put their cell phones away during the show. Of course, recording the show is heavily frowned upon. Despite breaking the rules, the audience member that Whoopi Goldberg singled out was allowed to stay throughout the entire broadcast.

The View Moderator Helps Control The Crowd Too

As the show’s moderator, Whoopi is in charge of introducing the next topic of discussion and ensuring that conversations don’t get too heated. She allows everyone at the table to get their two cents in on a topic. Additionally, she makes sure that discussions don’t go on for too long and that they stop for commercial breaks on time.

Out of all the hosts on The View, Whoopi is also known for keeping the audience in check. Previously, she has asked the crowd to not boo when conservative guests come on the show. Whoopi Goldberg had to do this when conservative Chris Sununu came on the show in May 2023.

She has also asked members of the audience to pipe down when they’ve gotten too rowdy. Last fall, a few people in the audience were extra vocal about their love for Ana Navarro. Whoopi Goldberg thought they were being over the top.

“Anyone else?” she questioned the audience. While there was laughter from around the room, it seemed like a potentially awkward moment.

The View airs on weekdays at 11 a.m. EST on ABC.
