‘Survivor’: Why Is Ben Katzman Covering His Tattoo?

'Survivor' Ben

It has happened again. There is another contestant on CBS’s megahit reality show, Survivor, who is covering a tattoo. Making this situation a bit stranger, both the first and second contestants who have had to cover tattoos share the name “Ben.” The odds of that happening just might be as long as they are for becoming a contestant on Survivor.

The First Covered Tattoo On Survivor

The first covered tattoo seen (or not seen) on Survivor happened back in 2017. That was Season 35, Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers. The tattoo belonged to Ben Driebergen. It was Ben Driebergen who went on to win that season and take home the $1 million prize.

Ben Driebergen, a former Marine and stay-at-home dad, also appeared on Season 40. This was the season where many of the winners came back to try to win the $2 million prize. Season 40 was known as Winners At War. It featured past winners such as Boston Rob, his wife Amber Marino and Sandra Diaz-Twine.

The Second Covered Tattoo

The second covered tattoo in Survivor history belongs to Ben Katzman. He is on the current season of Survivor, Season 46. This season, like many past seasons, is being shot in Fiji.

Ben Katzman’s tattoo is located on his chest. Just like the tattoo of the other seasons’ Ben, it is covered by a giant bandage.

The Reason Survivor Has The Tattoos Covered

Survivor has an excellent reason for the tattoos of both Bens to be covered. This is due to very specific copyright laws in the United States. CBS does not a lawsuit pending against them when it comes to intellectual property rights.

The original Ben, Ben Driebergen, had to have his tattoo, which was a tribute to his grandfather, covered because it was a tattoo of a John Deere tractor. The current Ben, Ben Katzman, has to have tattoo covered because it is a tattoo of Allister Fiend. This little monster-like creature is the mascot to the rock-n-roll band Motley Crue. Both the John Deere and Allister Fiend are covered by copyrights that do not belong to CBS.

Are Covered Tattoos On Survivor Lucky?

Although keeping his tattoo covered may be difficult while filming Survivor, Ben Katzman may thinking he is lucky to have Allister Fiend with him. Ben Driebergen just happened to win the $1 million prize on the first season he appeared on Survivor.

Tell us what you think. Do the think the copyright laws are important enough to warrant the trouble of covering them up on Survivor? Will the covered tattoo prove to be lucky for this season’s Ben? Sound off in the comment section below.
