Jenny McCarthy Rejected 17 Times From Hosting MTV For Playboy Past
When Jenny McCarthy posed for Playboy, she never thought that it would hinder her opportunities so badly. This was such a big deal for her but then, a chance at MTV came up. Sadly, she was turned away because she had been a playmate and it broke her heart. According to People, she had really wanted to be the co-host on the network. They were casting for, what would be a very popular dating show, Singled Out. It ran on the music channel from 1995 through 1998 but getting there was far from easy. McCarthy detailed what went down when she appeared on WWHL on Monday, March 18th.
Jenny shared this: “I got cast on MTV, but they rejected me 17 times. They said, ‘We’ll never have a Playmate on this network.’” Since she wanted this job desperately, she did everything she could to audition. This included wearing disguises which is pretty drastic. “They were like, ‘Are you that Playmate that kept calling?’ I’m like, ‘[laughs].’ So that was it.” There was some competition with a comedian though McCarthy cannot remember who this person was.
Jenny McCarthy added: “She was doing jokes! I wasn’t. I was just being strong. Cause you have to be with all these guys. So I was being kooky and just myself and I got it.” For those who don’t remember the show, Jenny worked alongside Chris Hardwick, who ended up hosting The Talking Dead. Together, they made the dating show fun but Jenny had to be extra exuberant and over the top to keep the energy at an all-time high. She excelled at that so clearly, she was the perfect choice. Now, she is a key panelist on The Masked Singer which viewers adore.
Playmate Days
Though it almost ruined her MTV career, Jenny McCarthy did not hate her Playmate days in any capacity. Yes, the Playboy Mansion was not always the greatest time but the opportunities she had were amazing. Back in 2017, upon Hugh Hefner’s passing, she had this to say:
“There’s always those people in your life that change the course of your life, and I think about how many people he affected just through me alone. Giving me the opportunity to move my parents out of a bad neighborhood and into a good neighborhood; pay off their debts; pay off my college loan; move to Los Angeles so I could pursue my dream.”
She may have had to work harder to get what she wanted but Jenny’s determination more than paid off. Now, she has solidified herself and fans know exactly who she is.
