S.W.A.T. star Shemar Moore saved the CBS show once before. Can he do it again? Will S.W.A.T. return for Season 8? Keep reading to find out how the actor keeps hope alive for fans.

S.W.A.T To End With Season 7

In May 2023, CBS made the shocking announcement that one of their most popular shows was canceled. They announced that Season 6 of S.W.A.T. would be its last. The show follows members of an elite S.W.A.T. team as they answer calls around Los Angeles. The cast includes Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, Jay Harrington as David “Deacon” Kay, David Lim as Victor Tan, Kenny Johnson as Dominique Luca, and Alex Russell as Jim Street.

The cancellation news shocked fans and the cast. Shemar Moore immediately took to social media to encourage the network to bring the show back for another season. His campaign worked. The network announced a few days later that S.W.A.T. would return for one final season with six episodes to give the show a proper conclusion.

Shemar Moore Keeps Hope Alive For More Seasons

Season 7 kicked off on February 16 to wrap up the storylines of each S.W.A.T. member. Jim Street’s exit came in a recent episode when he left the Los Angeles team to lead the Long Beach S.W.A.T. team. The move was a full-circle moment for the character, who first came to the Los Angeles team on the verge of getting booted from Long Beach.

As the end of the final season rapidly approached, Shemar Moore took to Instagram to rally fans who wanted to save the show. He shared a screenshot of a comment he wrote to a fan of the show. The former soap star said that the end of S.W.A.T. “would and will” make him sad. He said that the decision to renew the show for another season is out of his hands.

However, he gave fans a glimmer of hope. He told the fan that he was trying to “rally the troops,” including the cast and crew, to “keep the show alive.”

Shemar reminded S.W.A.T. fans to tune in if they want the show to return. “Numbers MATTER,” he said about the importance of ratings. He also wrote that “Nobody DIED,” alluding to a shocking death on the March 15 episode of the show. The actor added that “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE WITH NUMBERS.”

A character returning from the dead is a bit soapy for a primetime show. Which character was he talking about?

Does This Character Die?

Many of the S.W.A.T. actors were only brought back to Season 7 for an episode or two. One of those actors was Kenny Johnson. His character, Luca, was off-screen for training in London. The character and actor both made their grand return in the episode that aired this week.

The episode featured Luca struggling with teaching his daughter Kelly (played by Johnson’s real-life daughter Angelica) to drive. After blowing up at the teen for her dangerous driving, he extended an olive branch toward the end of the show. He offered to let his daughter drive them to a restaurant.

However, as they were walking to the restaurant, the S.W.A.T. officer spotted a robbery in progress. After telling Kelly to hide behind a vehicle, Luca approached the criminals and exchanged gunfire.

One robber shot Luca and then approached him to shoot him again, this time in the chest. The episode ended with Kelly yelling her dad’s name. So, did Luca die?

Fans will have to wait two weeks to find out Luca’s fate. The next episode won’t air until April 5. However, given that it is the final season and the actor only signed on for one episode, Luca will likely die from the wounds.

Do you think Shemar Moore and fans can get CBS to bring S.W.A.T. back for Season 8? Or maybe the actor can return to his old stomping grounds, The Young & The Restless. Sound off in the comments.
