Wendy Williams Owes $500K+ In Taxes, Faces Federal Lien
The federal government has issued a lien on Wendy Williams’ home due to unpaid taxes. According to the IRS, she owes hundreds of thousands of dollars from 2019 and 2021. The tax lien was generated in January of this year and the New York City Department of Finance made a record of it in February. Continue reading to see what Wendy Williams’ financial guardian plans to do about this predicament.
Wendy Williams Is Facing A Huge Federal Tax Lien
Legal documents show that the federal government has placed a lien on Wendy’s New York City condo. Records show she owes $568,451.57. She purchased the luxurious condo in 2021 for $4.5 million.
Although the lien was initially generated in January and recorded by the state of New York in February, there is no indication anyone has dealt with the matter. It is assumed that the responsibility would fall on Wendy Williams’ financial guardian, Sabrina Morrissey. Attempts to reach out to Morrissey by the media and Wendy’s family have been fruitless.
Sabrina Morrissey was appointed Wendy’s financial guardian by the courts in the spring of 2022. So, she was brought into the mix after the tax issues started. However, it falls on her to take care of the problem now.
News of the lien on Wendy Williams’ NYC condo is concerning because she was recently diagnosed with progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Her health issues came to light in February just before the release of the Lifetime docuseries Where Is Wendy Williams?
The Tax Lien Is Added To The Long List Of Wendy’s Problems
Many people have spoken out about the documentary saying that it was exploitative. Producers followed Wendy Williams through one of the most difficult times in her life and no one seemed to be interested in helping her. In fact, many people believe that those surrounding her at the time were enabling her by providing her with alcohol.
Producers working on the Lifetime project have stated that they were not aware of Wendy’s dementia diagnosis at the time of filming. That being said, an interview with her son Kevin Hunter Jr. was included in the documentary. He discussed his mom’s alcohol-induced memory loss, which was later identified as dementia.
Other family members also expressed concern for the former talk show host in the series. While they didn’t know what was wrong, they knew that Wendy wasn’t acting like herself. Her behavior was becoming more erratic, she was emotional and forgetful.
Recent interviews with family members seem to be optimistic about Wendy’s future. Her family is continuing to fight for guardianship rights and they are working to be able to provide the star with more support.
A review of Wendy Williams’ financial guardianship is scheduled to happen later this year.
