Family Crisis and the versions that came before are supposed to be genuine. Mama June and what her children have gone through is allegedly pure with no script. Yet, there have been some admissions of staged moments. Pumpkin’s husband, Josh Efird worked with Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson’s father, Sugar Bear. As it turned out, that never actually happened. Then, the home that Pumpkin films in is not actually her house but rather a production house. They rent it out for the duration of the season to accommodate the cast and crew but Efird’s house is much smaller.

Now, fans have been watching the episodes much more closely and they have some problems with it. They do not feel the cast is real and that they are not just acting but overacting. A Reddit thread was started to discuss this:
