Josie Duggar is the youngest daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, and she struggled as a preemie. So, some Counting On fans wonder if that’s the reason she seems to struggle with reading now that she’s going on 15 years old. The discussion arose on social media after former TLC star, Joy-Anna Duggar Forsyth recently shared a video.

Josie Duggar Didnt Have An Easy Childhood

Born very early, the tiny preemie seemed unlikely to survive, but somehow, thanks to many prayers and the staff in the NICU, she survived. However, she later went back under medical care when she experienced a ruptured bowel. As a young child, Michelle’s girl didn’t seem to be growing stronger. And she needed to be because word on social media came that she allegedly wasn’t given the attention she needed.

Josie Duggar also had some sort of seizures, and it’s not clear how they affected her. Without Counting On to reveal her story, there’s not much forthcoming about her progress. Nevertheless, she has been spotted at functions and gatherings that her older siblings posted on social media.

Joya-Anna Duggar Forsyth Reads For Josie

Joy-Anna’s latest vlog on YouTube showed her and her sisters playing a Q&A game at Joy’s place. As it involved reading, the cards had to be picked up and then the question read out. All of them managed fine. But when it came to Josie, Joy read on her behalf. So on Reddit, an OP had some questions about that.

The OP wondered if Josie Duggar struggled from being born prematurely. In the caption, they said:

Ive watched part of Joy’s new video and it seems like Josie requires help with reading (Joy is reading for her) and I’m wondering whether it’s been addressed earlier? She’ll be 15 this year which is concerning. Could it be because she was a preemie?

In the comments, people with experience in educating preemies seemed to think Josie might struggle with reading.

  • I’m a teacher and I had a micro preemie in my class last year (4 years old). She was incredibly small for her age, had vision problems, multiple kidney surgeries and speech delay. so the needs can be high.
  • I have a preemie who was born a little more mature than Josie. Learning difficulties are always a distinct possibility, since preemies frequently experience brain bleeds and the like. As a result, they are observed very closely throughout their early childhood and are given all sorts of therapies to give them the best possible outcome.
  • The Duggars were firm about their narrative that Josie was perfect and had suffered no significant lasting damage from her premature birth – hence describing her seizures as “a little glitch” – and I suspect that this may have led them to not accepting any therapies beyond the most basic
  • She’s well beyond the age of catching up from being a preemie. I think she doesn’t have a proper education, maybe she’s dyslexic or something too.

What are your thoughts about Joy-Anna Duggar Forsyth reading on behalf of Josie Duggar? Do you think that the 15-year-old might have problems because she was such a small preemie with complications? Sound off in the comments below, and come back here for all your Counting On family news.
