Mama June Shannon Fears For Granddaughters Once Anna Passes

Mama June Shannon admits she fears for her granddaughters, Kylee and Kaitlyn, once her daughter, Anna Cardwell passes. Anna has stage 4 adrenal carcinoma and has been given roughly five to ten years if that. She struggles to deal with her new reality, but June worries about what will ultimately happen to Anna’s girls. Read on for more details on the tragic situation.

Mama June Shannon Fears For Granddaughters Once Anna Passes

It has been really hard for Anna Cardwell to deal with cancer, chemo, and her life expectancy. She is trying her best to think somewhat positively and set goals. One of them is that she wants to be around to see her eldest daughter, Kaitlyn, go to high school. That is in about four years so she is thinking in terms of milestones. At the same time, her mother, Mama June, and sister, Pumpkin, really want her to make some concrete plans. They want her to get her affairs in order in terms of her daughters and where they will go when and if she does pass.

Yes, her daughter, Kylee has Anna’s ex-husband, Michael Cardwell who is her biological father but Kaitlyn’s father was never in the picture. Though Anna married her longtime boyfriend, Eldridge Toney in early 2023, he is not in the position to take on two girls. Now, People has a preview from the Friday, March 1st episode where June talks about plans that should be made. More so, she addresses her fears over what could happen to her granddaughters.

Mama June is out to eat with her husband, Justin Stroud, and her mother-in-law, and they tell her they are moving to Georgia. They have been bouncing back and forth between there and Alabama. She then opens up about the situation with her grandchildren:

“It’s a hard subject to talk about but like, when that time does come, like whenever Anna was to pass away, Eldridge [Toney] has told all of us that he’s not going to be able to handle [raising her kids.] So like, I want to be able to have that place to be like, ‘Okay, you can come here.’ And two, I mean, she doesn’t have her f—ing affairs in order.”

The Inevitable

Mama June does note that Kylee will go to her father, Michael Cardwell but Kaitlyn is a wild card. Anna’s husband, Eldridge is nervous about taking on custody but it is never fully addressed:

“She says she wants Eldridge to adopt Kaitlyn. But when it comes about to go do that … There’s always like — kind of like it’s brushed off.”

Justin goes on to add: “It’s going to be a mess when it comes to that child.” Ultimately, June shares that she will step up and do what needs to be done but reiterates that Anna Cardwell has to get the legal paperwork signed.
