Since Anna ‘Chickadee’ Cardwell passed away in early December 2023, the focus has been on her two daughters. She left behind Kylee and Kaitlyn but they do have different fathers. Anna Had Kylee with her ex-husband, Michael Cardwell so he got immediate custody of her. Kaitlyn, though raised by and close to Michael, stayed with Mama June. This is now something he is fighting as he maintains he has always been a father figure to Kaitlyn while June was estranged from Anna for years. Followers do not believe June’s home is the best environment for her granddaughter.
She has been treated poorly by family members, including June’s husband, Justin Stroud, including being yelled at on TikTok Lives which viewers saw and were sickened by. Now, a Reddit thread has been started as some feel the tween is not getting proper care after losing her mom:
- I’d June and Justin truly cared for Kaitlyn and her well being they would have her in therapy where she can open up and not feel judged or like a burden! Kaitlyn BARELY knows these people, she did not ask to be there…THEY made that selfish decision!

It was alluded to that Mama June only reconciled with Anna Cardwell as part of a storyline. Moreover, they believed that she was desperate to give the network something to work with. Being back in Anna’s good graces, especially when she was sick was just the ticket. Then, having Kaitlyn on the show bulks up June and Justin Stroud’s bank account. Every appearance she makes, she should get paid for as the money children get from reality TV is not protected. Now, if Kaitlyn was in therapy, June would likely make her followers aware of it as she lets them know when she does every and anything.
