‘General Hospital’ Fans Reeling Over Shocking Jagger Recast
General Hospital viewers are reeling after the soap’s latest episode. Jagger Cates returned to Port Charles with a new actor in the role. Who is playing the role made famous by Antonio Sabato Jr.? Keep reading for all the details on the shocking recast.
Who Is Jagger Cates?
General Hospital character John “Jagger” Cates was heavily involved in the storylines on the soap in the mid-90s. The character, played by Antonio Sabato Jr., first appeared in 1992 as a high school dropout who robbed Kelly’s diner. The diner was recently renamed Bobbie’s in honor of the character played by late actress Jackie Zeman.
In a classic case of bad boy meets good girl, Jagger eventually fell in love with Karen Wexler (originally played by Cari Shayne.) Jason (Steve Burton) and Brenda (Vanessa Marcil) played a role in the storyline.
Legacy character Robin’s (Kimberly McCullough) first love was Jagger’s younger brother, Stone Cates (Michael Sutton.)
Jagger and Karen left town in 1994 after getting married. Antonio Sabato Jr. briefly returned a year later when Stone died of AIDS.

The character returned in February 2024, but there is a new actor in the role.
General Hospital Recasts Role
Antonio Sabato Jr. was a worldwide sensation in the ’90s. The Italian-American model even appeared in the video for Janet Jackson’s hit song “Love Will Never Do Without You.”
However, his career trailed off in recent years. He was a contestant on Dancing With The Stars in 2014.
The actor claims that he’s blacklisted in Hollywood for his political views. The former soap star is a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump.
The head honchos at General Hospital haven’t said why they chose to recast Jagger. In fact, they didn’t announce the recast at all before Jagger reappeared on-screen during the February 2nd episode.
Actor Adam Harrington is playing Jagger Cates this go-around. According to Soap Opera Digest, Harrington’s acting credits include Bosch, Dexter, and more.
The outlet reports that the character will go by John instead of his nickname, Jagger.
Fans Left Stunned
General Hospital fans have been anxiously awaiting Steve Burton’s return as Jason. The last thing they were expecting was the return of Jagger with a different actor playing him.
