‘General Hospital’ Steve Burton Talks Jason Cheating Death
Steve Burton is coming back to General Hospital as Jason Morgan. This is only slightly surprising. Jason seemingly died on the popular daytime soap opera, but no one ever stays dead on soaps. Since Jason’s body was never found, GH kept his return possible, and now it is coming to fruition.
Here is what Steve Burton said about his return to General Hospital and Jason’s ability to always cheat death.
Steve Burton on Jason cheating death on General Hospital
Steve Burton has been gone from General Hospital since November 2021. On the Nov. 19, 2021, episode, Jason ended up in a shootout with Peter August (Wes Ramsey). He was responsible for the last time Jason disappeared from the show. During their shootout in Greece, the cave they were in collapsed, and Jason was presumed dead.
It was a heroic end for Jason as well, as he was able to save the lives of others thanks to his actions. Three months later, Peter finally died when Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) killed him to avenge Jason. However, it sounds like Jason didn’t die in that cave-in after all, and he is coming back to General Hospital.
The news broke on the soap’s 60th-anniversary special. On that special, a short video clip revealed that Jason was coming back in early 2024. In the clip, it said, “One door closes, another one opens,” when announcing the return. That is ironic because that is what Burton said when General Hospital let him go back in 2021. Burton went to Days of Our Lives, and now that the door there has closed (his character of Harris Michaels has been gone for a while), the door to GH has opened again.
How will Jason return to General Hospital?
It’s not hard to imagine how Jason Morgan will return to General Hospital. Throughout soap opera history, if a body is not seen, fans have to assume they somehow survived. This is especially true on a soap like GH, which has major storylines built on espionage, spy stories, and organized crime. For Jason, escaping death has become a recurring theme.
At one time in his life, Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) shot Jason and kicked him into the water. His body was never found, and he was presumed dead. He turned out to be alive two years later and was held captive by Victor Cassadine (Thaao Penghlis). An accident required facial surgery, which allowed GH to replace Steve Burton with Billy Miller. However, using soap opera logic, it turned out the real Jason was held captive in Russia and the version of Jason played by Billy Miller was his twin brother.
With that kind of storyline, expect anything to happen when Jason returns this time around, cheating death once again. For Burton himself, he said, “All I know is I’m buried in a cave in Greece somewhere. That’s all I know” (via She Knows).
