Why Isn’t Jamie Foxx Hosting We Are Family?
We Are Family is a new game show premiering on Wednesday, January 3rd. The idea is that the performers are all related to famous performers. They will perform solos and then add duets with their celebrity relatives. Plus, clues are given to spice things up. It is then up to the audience, one hundred people, to see if they can accurately guess who they are related to. It is like Claim To Fame but the musical edition. Initially, Jamie Foxx was set to host with his daughter, Corinne but that has since changed and he was replaced with Anthony Anderson and his mother, Doris. So, what exactly prompted this change?
According to Parade, there is no set reason for why Jamie and Corinne bowed out. In fact, it seems there are a few theories revolving around them being replaced. One theory is a scheduling issue now that the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes are over. This has pushed back the production of most shows immensely so this is completely valid and understandable. Then again, others believe it could be due to Jamie’s health as he was dealing with a severe medical issue. This forced him out of Beat Shazam, only to be replaced by Nick Cannon and Kelly Osbourne.
Though Jamie Foxx will not be in front of the camera for We Are Family, he will keep his producer hat on. So, he will still be involved in some capacity. The show was thrilled to have Anthony and Mama Doris step into the hosting duties, as FOX Entertainment’s President of Unscripted Programming, Allison Wallach excitedly shared:
“We’re so excited to have Anthony and Doris headline We Are Family. They embody everything that’s special about this show—a ton of laughs, a lot of heart and some friendly on the edge-of-your-seat competition that the whole family can enjoy.”
The End Goal
Though Anthony Anderson is taking over for Jamie Foxx, he and his mother are beyond excited to join the series:
“I jumped at the opportunity to host We Are Family and can’t wait for you to see all the celebrities, their relatives and the many surprises we have in store this season—and with my mama by my side, you never know what’s going to happen!”
Plus, there’s money at stake, with a chance to walk away with 150K. Some say that there is a The Masked Singer element with the celeb relative being kept hidden in a bubble. As aforementioned, clues will also be a part of the game. So, the vocals will be key as will attention to detail and knowledge of famous people from all genres. This will not just include singers but athletes and actors.
