The controversial Vanderpump Rules star didn’t exactly win over any new fans during his short-lived stint on The Masked Singer.

There has been quite the selection of reality TV show villains over the past 25 years. There’s Richard Hatch from the original season of Survivor, who just simply rubbed fans and castmates the wrong way. Then there’s Danielle Staub of Real Housewives Of New Jersey. Staub’s boisterous and combative personality made her appearances must-watch TV. And who could forget Omarosa Manigault Newman? She became so infamous on The Apprentice that she only needed her first name to be uttered to send chills down viewer’s spines.

Today, one of the most talked about reality TV villains is none other than Vanderpump Rules star Tom Sandoval. In a show filled with sharp and questionable personalities, Sandoval tops them all. He became public enemy number one following accusations that he cheated on his longtime girlfriend Ariana Madix with their co-star Raquel Leviss. Sandoval’s unrepentant attitude struck the nerve of many fans, making him someone easy to root against.

Taking A Nosedive On The Masked Singer

For fans who enjoy seeing villains fall, this season of The Masked Singer offered up a tremendous tumble. Well before the premiere of Season 10, it became known that Tom Sandoval would be featured on the show. Last month, the worst-kept secret in TV garnered tremendous buzz all over the internet. Online sleuths were certain that Sandoval was The Diver.

With rampant speculation swirling about which mask Sandoval would be donning, it didn’t take long for him to lean into his role as a villain. “I’ve been everyone’s favorite person to hate and, to be honest, I get it,” Sandoval said in last week’s episode.

As far as performances go, The Diver put on a good show. He had the judges clapping along and provided some entertaining dance moves to go along with the decent vocals. He even surprised Nicole Scherzinger with the talent that he showed off on stage. “I don’t know who you are, but you have talent. And you light up on the stage,” she said. “This week you showed us your moves, I didn’t even know you had it like that. Now I’m really confused!”

But perhaps singing “I Ain’t Worried” by One Republic was a good indicator of The Diver’s true identity. Right off the bat, Ken Jeong seemed to have a clear idea that Sandoval was under the mask. Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg joined Jeong in selecting Sandoval as their guess. After some brief suspense, The Diver lifted the mask to reveal that he was indeed Tom Sandoval.

The Masked Singer  Fans React To Tom Sandoval

Even with his impressive vocals and surprising dance moves, Sandoval found himself going home. In his post-elimination interview, Sandoval appears to attribute his reputation as the deciding factor in Ken Jeong’s guess. “He’s definitely kept up with all the current events,” Sandoval said. “Once I mentioned that I’m getting a lot of hate lately, I figured it was pretty inevitable that somebody was going to say Tom Sandoval.”

For many The Masked Singer fans, eliminating Sandoval was the right call. They point to Sandoval’s desperation to change the narrative. After Sandoval’s controversy over his cheating scandal, he has made a concerted effort to win over fans. But for many viewers, his attempt is falling short.

“I find it funny how Tom Sandoval thinks that this show is gonna save his reputation,” wrote one user on YouTube.

Another user echoed the same sentiment. “Why is bro acting like Masked Singer is gonna save his reputation?”

A third user also noted Sandoval’s desperation. “Watching The Masked Singer and I knew DAMN well The Diver was Tom Sandoval and bro F*** YOU. Man you really signed up for a show because Ariana was doing Dancing With The Stars. What an attention w****,” they wrote.
