‘Old Hallmark’ Didn’t Let Actors Wear Plaid & More On Naughty List
When the Hallmark Channel changed its leadership, the network became more inclusive and diverse. The network now makes true romcoms, stories about best friends, and comedy. However, these are not the only changes. Some of the biggest changes are little things that viewers may never have previously noticed.
One of those changes is that the actors can now wear plaid.
What are some of the other little things that have changed at the Hallmark Channel?
Hallmark Hunk Reveals They Could Not Wear Plaid Or Eat In A Scene
Recently, Hallmark Hunks Andrew Walker, Tyler Hynes, and Paul Campbell spoke with Vulture about the network. This included how it is different from the past. That includes its “aesthetics.” That includes what the actors wear, and if they are eating. That is all part of the “feeling” that these movies emit.
Andrew Walker explained to the publication that it can take years for a script to make it on the screen. He then explained, “Hallmark has gone through a lot of different variations of what its “aesthetics” are. There was a period where we couldn’t be in plaid clothing or we couldn’t be eating in a scene.”
This year, there was plenty of plaid. That includes both Andrew and his leading lady Rachel Skarsten, both in plaid in Christmas Island. In addition, Lacey Chabert and Scott Wolf played brother and sister in A Merry Scottish Christmas. It would be sacrilege to not wear plaid.

As for eating, the recent Notes Of Autumn featured Peter Porte’s character showing Luke Macfarlane’s character all sorts of food. Imagine how it would have looked if Luke never sampled any of the food.
There Was No Crying On Old Hallmark
While comedy is part of the new Hallmark, so is the opposite. Back in the old days, there was no crying in a Hallmark movie. About a year ago, Nikki DeLoach revealed that they didn’t want them to cry because it was not attractive.
Old Regime Had Hair Rules
Hallmark Hunk Ryan Paevey has on many occasions mentioned how in the old days, his facial hair was a huge issue. He shared that his five o’clock shadow was a concern. Many may notice that Paevey and his facial hair follicles are now no longer as clean-shaven as he was in Unleashing Mr. Darcy.
In Sealed With A List, viewers raved on social media over Katie Findlay’s great short bob of curls.
Hallmark fans, what do you think of actors wearing plaid, or eating on screen? Do you like these subtle changes to the network’s aesthetics?
