The Masked Singer certainly helps celebrities in many ways with their careers. In John Schneider’s case, it helped him on a personal level.

Another season of The Masked Singer has come to an end. The 10th season finale saw all the remaining contestants revealed, with John Schneider under the mask of one of them. It turns out that this was exactly what he needed in such a difficult year.

Where Did John Schneider Finish on The Masked Singer?

The 63-year-old actor and country music star finished second on The Masked Singer Season 10. He came behind NE-YO, who was the Cow after all. Most people guessed that one from the very first performance!

Schneider was the Donut. Jenny McCarthy had guessed that the Duke of Hazzard star was under the mask.

A Difficult Year for John Schneider

The actor had a difficult 2023. In February, he lost his wife to cancer, and that grief took its toll on him. She was only 53 at the time of her death, and he has focused on keeping her memory alive.

December is the first Christmas without her. He’s admitted to it being a rough one. Grief does not just go away. Many people say that the first Christmas without a loved one is the hardest.

How The Masked Singer Helped John Schneider

The Duke of Hazzard actor told PEOPLE Magazine about how he found a light in the reality competition. This was more than just something fun for him to do. It wasn’t designed to kick start his career again, although he does have a new album coming out in memory of Alicia. This was a way to deal with the grief, and the show did exactly that.

Schneider talked about how singing some of the greatest songs ever written and having the audience around him helped. He could see how people enjoyed his performances. This offered him the light that he needed at the time.

It turns out that his wife Alicia wanted him to do The Masked Singer. He envisioned her there to help with the costume idea. This did lead to a bittersweet thought, but he still pushed through. The donut is important in his memory of Alicia. They ate donuts a lot together and she would always get him apple fritters on Saturdays. When the show asked him to be the Donut, he viewed it as a sign from her.

The costume also gave him a chance to grief publically and help others in this process. He wanted to make it clear that it is okay to grieve, and Donut gave him a chance to do it without other people knowing who he was. He also shared that The Masked Singer was the “glue that held me together.”
