Right now, Netflix subscribers are buzzing over a hot new game show. It’s called Squid Game: The Challenge and it’s inspired by the hit 2021 Korean drama.

In the original Squid Game, players had to risk their lives for a chance to win millions. The game show draws inspiration from the Korean drama, but without all the violence. Instead, players have to play games inspired by the original show in hopes of winning the prize money. But no one’s life is really on the line.

However, it does appear that Squid Game: The Challenge contestants were quite uncomfortable during filming. In fact, some even tried rubbing condoms on their lips to keep them from getting chapped!

Squid Game: The Challenge players resorted to extreme measures

EW heard a rumor about filming and couldn’t help but ask about it when they had a chance to sit down with contestant Trey Plutnicki. Squid Game: The Challenge fans will remember him as Player 301. He and his mother LeAnn were fan favorites among viewers.

According to reports, players allegedly used lubricated condoms as chapstick during the filming process. They were each given a back of toiletries with essential items like toothpaste. They also reportedly received condoms, but no chapstick. As a result, they depended on the lubrication to keep their lips moisturized.

“I’m going to confirm this: Yeah, that’s 100 percent real,” Trey informed EW as he laughed. “Do you think I did that? Do I seem like a person that did that? No, hell no. That’s so stupid.”

However, he and his fellow competitors were still desperate to ease their suffering.

“There was lotion, there was conditioner, and those were the first two tries,” Trey told EW. “And after I tried those and they weren’t working, I was like, ‘Well, that’s all of our options, because obviously we’re not going to use the condoms.’ And within a day, maybe a day and a half, all the condoms were gone. It was absurd. And it still didn’t work!”

The players did eventually get some proper lip balm

EW reports that the players eventually coaxed the production team into giving them lip balm. Trey didn’t end up keeping his as a souvenir, which he regrets.

“I gave my chapstick to someone last minute because I accidentally kept it in my pocket during Glass Bridge,” Player 301 admitted. “And I was like, ‘Can you please give this back to me? It has my number on it.’ And they were like, ‘I will not see you again if you don’t make it over that bridge.’ I was like, ‘Great. Killer. Awesome encouragement.'”

The final episode of Squid Game: The Challenge drops on Netflix on Wednesday, December 6. Tune in and see which of the three finalists wins the prize money!
