‘Fixer Upper’ Chip Gaines Says They Have Unhinged From Perfect Balance
Admittedly, the Fixer Upper couple Joanna and Chip Gaines say they have given up on finding the perfect balance. Likewise, they also believe it is an unreasonable ask for anyone to achieve. Nonetheless, the couple has built an empire of business with their Fixer Upper brand and life experiences.
Joanna And Chip Gaines Take On Extra Challenges
Undeniably, Joanna and Chip Gaines have by every account stayed busy over their 20 years of marriage. In addition to their admirably successful business portfolio, they also have built a family together. Notably, they share five children: Drake, 18, Ella, 17, Duke, 15, Emmie, 13, and Crew, 5. And if a large family isn’t challenging enough, they have multiple hit shows, books, a podcast, their network, and product lines. Specifically, they just released their new series, Fixer Upper: The Hotel, which follows the remodel of Hotel 1928 in Waco, Texas. Unquestionably, they have poured their heart and soul into both work and life along the way.

The Myth Of Work-Life Balance
Discussing work-life balance, Joanna says, “When people ask the questions, ‘How do you do what y’all are doing?'” Continuing, “Or, ‘How do you balance work with home?'” She shares her and Chip Gaines’ thoughts, “We always say kind of the same thing, which is, ‘Balance is this elusive thing. Good luck.'” Additionally, Joanna admits, “Balance isn’t something I think that’s achievable in this lifetime. We’re all trying our best.”
And in fact, Chip Gaines says, as a couple, “have allowed ourselves to sort of unhinge from this idea, that there is such a thing as work-life balance.” Presently, Chip believes, “I think somebody lied to us when they created that thought.” Pointedly, the Fixer Upper star says that it was an impossible thought derived from a gimmick more than ten years ago.
Joanna And Chip Gaines Talk About What Is Working
But the couple shares what has worked for them. Joanna shares and Chip Gaines agrees, “It’s prioritizing, always waking up every morning and understanding what is your priority,” she told People. “For us, it’s obviously our relationship, and then our family and our children.” Additionally, the couple discussed that they try to keep life as normal as possible for their children. For instance, they attempt not to talk about all the things they are doing. Joanna says, “I think they love the idea of flying under the radar, feeling normal.” Agreeably, she says, “We get that. But maybe they’ll be proud of this one day.”
