Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best-selling novel The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo is receiving its own film adaptation. Netflix confirmed that it would adapt the book for the big screen in March 2022. What Is The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo About?
The novel was published in 2017 but gained popularity after it went viral on TikTok in 2021. The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo isn’t the first book penned by Taylor Jenkins Reid to get an adaptation either. Prime Video adapted Reid’s 2019 novel Daisy Jones & The Six into a television show.
Seven Husbands takes place in both the 1950s and the present day. It tells the story of the main character, Evelyn Hugo, and her seven marriages. Taylor Jenkins Reid has come out and said that the book is not based on any true events. Readers have drawn some comparisons between the main character, Evelyn Hugo, and big-name celebrities of the time.
Many people believe that Evelyn’s character could be based on Elizabeth Taylor or Marilyn Monroe. Reid has not confirmed any of the fan theories.

Taylor Jenkins Reid Film Adaptation Coming Soon
The streaming service Netflix greenlit the production of The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo in March 2022. Initially, the film was set to be produced by Freeform. Under Freeform, development was going to be led by Ilene Chaiken and Jennifer Beals, known for The L Word.
Liz Tigelaar, who is the showrunner and executive producer of Little Fires Everywhere, will be writing the script for the Netflix adaptation. She helped adapt Celeste Ng’s novel for a Hulu limited series.
The author of The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo, Taylor Jenkins Reid, will serve as an executive producer on the project working alongside Margaret Chernin. Leslye Headland, known for Netflix’s Russian Doll, will direct the movie.
When Will The Movie Appear On Netflix?
At this time, very few details about the movie have been revealed. However, there have been rumors about who viewers might see starring in the highly anticipated adaptation.
For the role of Evelyn Hugo, fans have proposed a number of potential options, including Ana de Armas, Salma Hayek, and Sofia Vergara. Jessica Chastain has also been mentioned as a fan-favorite to play the role of Celia St. James.
In January 2023, Jessica Chastain sat down for an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live where she alluded to possibly accepting the role. She told Andy that she wouldn’t turn down a role if a good script came along.

While fans found this promising, nothing has been confirmed yet as far as who will be playing the role of Celia St. James or anyone else in the novel’s adaptation. All that Jessica has confirmed is that she will be on stage on Broadway until June 10 of this year.
Netflix hasn’t announced a release date yet, but it is expected to start production sometime in 2024.
