Matt James made history in the Bachelor Nation franchise when he was cast as the first Black Bachelor in 2020. Season 25 began airing in January 2021, but it did not go the way James thought it would. Rather than celebrating the long-awaited milestone, the drama surrounding contestant Rachael Kirkconnell overshadowed the season.
While the season was still airing, photos leaked online of Kirkconnell attending an antebellum-themed party a few years before appearing on The Bachelor. Kirkconnell was an early frontrunner in Season 25.
Since the show is filmed months before it airs, Matt James didn’t know about the photos until after he had already chosen Kirkconnell as his final rose winner, though he didn’t propose to her.

Matt James posted on his Instagram earlier this week to share some huge news. The couple bought a home together. He shared a home tour video with the caption, “Welcome to our first home in Jupiter, Florida!”
As Bachelor Nation fans know, Bachelorette star Tyler Cameron is from Jupiter, Florida. He’s best friends with Matt James and owns a beach house near Jupiter.
The tour starts in the living room as the couple shows off their brown leather couch. Kirkconnell said that they wanted the room to be “traditional” with a “touch of modern” to it.
The tour continues through their kitchen and dining area. They also have a formal dining room, which Matt James said is perfect for hosting game nights.
