Some of the rejected Golden Bachelor contestants push for a Golden Girls reboot. Could it happen, and who would it star? Keep reading for all the details.

The Golden Girls

The Golden Girls is an iconic sitcom that ran for seven seasons in the late 80s and early 90s. The cult classic starred Bea Arthur as Dorothy Zbornak, Betty White as Rose Nylund, Rue McClanahan as Blanche Devereaux, and Estelle Getty as Sophia Petrillo.

What’s unique about the show is the characters are older single women between the ages of 50 and 60. Matriarch Sophia was around the age of 80.

The show was an instant hit with viewers and continues to be a cult classic thirty years after it went off the air.

Rejected Golden Bachelor Contestants Want Reboot

Did ABC take a page from the success of The Golden Girls when they planned a senior version of the uber-popular Bachelor franchise? Possibly.

On The Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner, 72, looks for love among 22 women between the ages of 60 and 75. The first-ever season premiered to rave reviews in late September.

A month later, Turner has the women narrowed down to three – Faith Martin, Theresa Nist, and Leslie Fhima.

Despite getting eliminated from the show, the viewers are still interested in knowing more about the Golden Bachelor castoff contestants.

Sandra, Susan, and Ellen recently spoke with AARP about their experiences on the show and what they hope for the future.

Regarding a spinoff, Susan told the outlet, “We are the ASKN Crew — that’s April, Susan, Kathy [another contestant who went home roseless] and Nancy — and we need the modern day Golden Girls.

She went on to say that she’s sure it would be a hit because “We have four separate personalities and we’re all fun.

AARP asked Sandra how she felt about the idea. She said, “I think the market is ready for it.

The Golden Bachelor isn’t Sandra’s first brush with TV fame. She was a contestant on Wheel of Fortune in the late 80s. Of her game show experience, she said, “Wheel of Fortune was kind of the original reality show.

Ellen didn’t weigh in on the idea of a Golden Girls spinoff, but she did speak to the misconceptions people have about ABC’s popular dating show. “People don’t really feel that someone could get attached in such a short period of time, and I’m saying this on the record, that is so not true!

Will They Get A Spinoff?

A Golden Girls reboot may not be in the cards for the ladies, but it’s possible they could return to your TV screens. ABC has yet to confirm, but many believe a Golden Bachelorette spinoff is on the horizon.
