Landon Barker Discusses Battle With Alcohol & Anxiety
Growing up with legendary drummer Travis Barker as a dad, it seems that his son Landon was destined to break into the music industry and carry on the family legacy. From a young age, Landon Barker recalled his father taking him on tour with some of the biggest names in the industry.
Although the musician tried other forms of art like painting and cover art, he recalled nothing “resonated” with him more than music. While joining her father’s Elektra Imprint DTA Records was one of his main goals, Barker recently detailed how he struggled with mental health issues and alcoholism while finding his voice.
Over the last year, Landon Barker decided not to hide problems with mental health, hoping his words could encourage others to seek help. He sat down with PEOPLE, admitting that it all started with alcohol. “I was abusing it and just abusing that substance, and then one day it just shocked me, and I had gone through that for months. It was awful, and I went through heightened OCD, heightened ADHD and heightened anxiety, all while disassociating and feeling like I was in a video game.”

Detailing what it was like to disassociate, Landon Barker added, “I was watching my whole entire life through a movie screen. It was honestly awful. I always love to spread awareness about suicide and talk about it.”
Although suffering from anxiety, OCD, and ADHD, Landon Barker admitted that a concussion helped him confront his problems, claiming he just “had to deal with it.”
“I just hated life for three or four months. It was pretty awful. I remember I would just go to the hospital once a week just because I would have such bad panic attacks from everything that was going on,” – Landon Barker, PEOPLE.
While Landon Barker isn’t fond of his past, he revealed how he learned to deal with his mental health using “tips and tricks” he learned along the way. The musician noted his addictive personality and how trying any sort of medication might put him in a “dependent situation.” He insisted, “I was doing a lot of therapy and working out, and it was helpful.”
Wanting To Give Fans A Great Night
Besides learning a great deal about himself, Landon Barker still fights with anxiety, especially when having to perform on stage. To curb his anxiety, the musician said that he reminds himself that the crowd came to see him and he would try and hope to do his best to give his fans a “great night.”
